Teaching Procedure
Prepare
1. Hello Kindergartners! My name is Ms. McKeever and I’m studying to be a music
teacher. I’m so excited to get to sing with you today!
2. Today, we’re going to sing a song about echos. Does anyone know what an echo is?
3. Sometimes, when you’re in a big space, when you say something the sound will come
back to you, but softer.
4. Everybody be my echo. (Sing) Yoo hoo!
a. Yoo hoo!
5. Is an echo the same (show hand sign) or different (show hand sign) from the sound before
it?
a. Anticipated answer: Students show “same” hand sign
Present
1. Put up slide with lyrics + images.
2. I’d like to introduce you all to my friend Spot (Takes out Puppet) Everybody say “Hi
Spot!” I’m going to sing a song and Spot will be my echo. Keep the steady beat on your
lap while we sing.
3. Model patsching on lap
4. Sing song and echo with puppet, keep patsching with hand that isn’t working puppet.
Practice and Extend
1. Thank you for being my echo Spot! This time, I’ll sing, and when we get to Spot’s part,
what will you all sing?
a. Anticipated answer: yoo hoo!
2. Sing song another time with all the students singing the echo part. Keep the beat on
shoulders while you sing and extend arms while keeping beat during the echo part.
3. Is there a brave Kindergartener who wants to sing the echo part all by themself?
4. Sing the song a few more times with volunteers on the echo part. Continue

Assess and Close


1. This time, you sing my part, and I’ll be your echo.
2. Cue with breath and then keep beat steady with arms out. Bring arms in when you sing.
