Subject/Grade level: Algebra I / 9th

Unit topic: Benchmark
Lesson Goals: The student will be able to simplify expressions and solve equations by hand.
Lesson title or topic: Benchmark review.
Estimated length of lesson: 45 minutes

TEKS Standards:

 AI. 3 Linear functions, equations, and inequalities. The student is expected to: A.
 AI. 4 Linear functions, equations, and inequalities. The student is expected to: A, B and C.
 AI. 8 Quadratic functions and equations. The student is expected to: A.
 AI. 10 Number and algebraic methods. The student is expected to: A, B, and D.
Learning Objective(s):
The students will be able to simplify expressions, solve linear equations and linear inequalities, determine the
slope of a line, determine the solution of a system, and solve quadratic equations by hand.
Academic Language:

 Expression  Proportion  Exponent  System

 Equation  Exponents  Slope  Solution

Materials:

 Bell Work  Pencil  Calculator  Assignment 4  Exit Ticket

Resources:

 Kuta Software: this software created the assignment worksheet.

Gradual Release of Responsibility:

The lesson will begin with the teacher explaining the bell ringer as a review of a previous lesson.
The teacher will start the class explaining the lesson objective.
The teacher will time out each problem from the assignment. (I do).
Students will work the problems individually. Students will solve each problem by hand (We do).
During each timed problem, teacher will be supervising and guiding students.
Once the times is up, the teacher will explain in detail how to solve each problem (I do).
The teacher and students will repeat the same exercise with 10 more different problems (We do).
During the exit ticket, teacher will be only monitoring the students (I do).
Students will write down at least one thing for “What I Know”, “What I Wonder”, and “What I Learned”.
Instructional Procedures:
The class will start at 9:36 am.
The teacher will ask the students solve the bell ringer on their own. (3 minutes)
The teacher will explain how to solve the bell ringer problem. (1 minute)

 Introduction: The teacher will ask some questions to get the students ready for the lesson. The teacher
will introduce the topic and the lesson objective.

 Teacher Modeling: The teacher will model how to solve the first problem in the assignment. Teacher
will explain the steps in detail. (2 minutes)
The teacher will provide the activity instructions.

 Body of the Lesson & Independent Practice: The main activity will take place. Students will work
individually on the assignment. Students will solve each problem by hand unless indicated otherwise.
Students will solve one problem at a time. Teacher will explain that specific problem at the board.
This exercise will be repeat 10 more times. (Total of 32 minutes)

 Guided Practice: Teacher will be walking around the classroom to monitor, supervise, and guide
students throughout the solving exercise.

 Conclusion: The teacher will conclude the class with an exit ticket named “KWL”. Students must write
down at least one thing that they “know”, “wonder”, and “learned”. (5 minutes)
The class will end at 10:22 am.

Assessment:
Summative assessment will be based in the individual assignment. The teacher will see how are the
assignment problems solved to give individual grades. Formative assessment will be based on the exit ticket.
The teacher will determine what type of topics and concepts must be re-teach.

Accommodations/Modifications/Enrichment:
-Limited English Proficiency (LEP)
For the LEP students, the teacher will monitor their work progress to ensure students comprehension and
teacher will model steps in detail for a better understanding.
