1. The Grace Award is an award that is presented by AHIMA for the innovative use of

health information and excellence in health information management

2. Previous awards have been presented to:

2012- University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinic- electronic portal for outside

providers to submit information that could be processed and viewed in 2 hours.

Palm vein scanning to identify patients to reduce identity theft and fraud,

2013- Truman Medical Centers- Uses of Cerner’s Lighthouse Solutions to

improve statistics in patient falls, pressure ulcers and reduce hospital stays.

Hospital acquired pressure ulcers were reduced from 6% to less than 2%.

2014- Children’s Medical Center of Dallas- integrating HIM expertise with across

the organization to improve patient care and population health and, lower costs.

2015- Allina Health of Minneapolis- centralized structure to manage the patient

record, HIM as an approver for forms in the EHR, standards for disclosure

information, master scanning resource document, establishing RAC audit

committee

2016- The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center- using data collection to

improve patient care by using evidence-based practices. Improved CDI program,

40% improvement in patient safety events, creation of patient portal to empower

patients to participate in their healthcare.

 2017- SCL Health- data visualization program to meet needs including

meaningful use. Creation of interdisciplinary health data exchange committee,

physician video visits.

2018- Yale New Haven Health- extensive efforts in coding and clinical

documentation information. Proactively managing at risk populations,

reimbursements, and appeals and denials, Reduced MPI errors to 2%
