The Philippine art as a part of Filipino culture

“Why study (Filipino) popular art" an article written by Edilberto Alegre that was publiched on May 1
2002 talks about the beauty of Philippine art including the Filipino music, movies and Philippine
literature. It emphasizes the similarities and differences between the works of the westerns and the
work of Filipinos that was a developed works of the westerns and it was stated here why we should
study the Filipino arts. The article written by Edilberto Alegre was written to show or to let the Filipinos
know what kind of art the Philippines have. This is written for us to realize how unique and how
beautiful our arts are, our music, movies and our literature. This is written specially for Filipinos who
doesn't know how to appreciate the beauty of their own art and and also for the Filipinos that doesn't
know what they already have. This is to introduce every Filipino to their own work. We should not forget
the beauty of our own arts because what we have in the Philippines is something that other people or
other country cannot get from us, the music, movies and the literature was have in our country is our
true treasure.

The beauty of the Philippine art particularly in our music is not just because it was just developed work
of the westerns. It is true that without the work of the westerns, we won't have any work to develop to
come up with such good music but it is not true that our art in the Philippines is beautiful just because it
was a mere copy from others. I believe that Filipinos can create good music without basing it on others
works “ There is much to admire in not completely westernized Pinoy pop art i.e. indigenized Western"
this line that was stated on the article is one of the lines I agree the most with, because we can create
our own art, we can create good works, as good as those we created based on others works. The best
example is OPM. Javate (2018) said that “The Philippine music scene has certainly been booming over
the past couple of years with lots of fresh acts coming out to exhibit Pinoy Pride through their song
releases. In terms of heavy marketing, lots of concerts and gigs featuring local acts have been spawning
all over the country”. This only means that our own art, OPM, after so many years that passed, and after
all the new music that other country releases, OPM can keep pace. The Filipino music can be as good as
others music.

Another Filipino art that embodies Filipino culture is our movies. Just like the original movies created by
Filipinos, you can see here how Filipinos are in their daily lives, specifically in the movies before.
Example is FPJ's movies where even if he's already on his legal age, he still lives in the same house where
his parents live, and even if they are over populated for that little house they still live together, that's
how some Filipino families are until today. “We borrowed the camera and we came out with Pinoy na
Pinoy movies" I agree with this because this statement is just a simple statement but it tells so much
about how Filipino movies are, and how Filipinos work on their arts. Cruz (2017) “Film makers are still
experimenting on what kind of films will make a profit given such a mercurial market that would
inexplicably make a historical film like Jerrold Tarog's “Heneral Luna" earn millions at the box office. This
only proves that the more Filipino original a movie is, the better and the more people can relate to a
movie is, the better. Just like how people related to the movie “Heneral Luna" which talks about the
Filipinos before.
And lastly, the Philippine art where we should be proud of the most is the Philippine literature. But
before we can be proud of our own literature, we must first study it. Let's start from a simple part, we
must be familiar with our words. For example is our way on how we divide our time from the smallest to
biggest. We must know how to speak our own language , we must know how to use our language.
Milford (2017) What ever nationality you are, it is always very important to study the literature of your
own country. In doing so, you are not only learning about the historical aspects of your land, but you are
also keeping alive the thoughts, beliefs, and cultural variations of your ancestors that differentiate your
country from the rest of the world. We study literature so that we can better appreciate our country
culture, art and our literary heritage.

In conclusion, the Philippines is a country that has so much to be proud of. The art of the Philippines is
the true treasure of this country , the Philippine art is the thing that the colonizers before cannot take
away from the people of the Philippines. So today's time, all we need to do is to recognize and embrace
our own art because these arts of the Philippines is a big part of us being Filipinos
