EDT 180 Spring 2019

I have been assigned by the principal of the school to create a presentation for the
administration. The presentation is in regard to a new software suite called”Teacher’s
Pet” that the IT department has identified. The IT department feels so strongly about
the software being approved by the district administrators that they recommend an
instructional presentation is prepared in advance to present to all the teachers. The
applications I will use to prepare these presentations are Powtoon, PowerPoint and
Loom.

The first application I will use will be Powtoon. With Powtoon I can make a brief, but
compelling presentation why the administrators should attend a special meeting about
the new software. The Powtoon will show cost savings for the district and more
productive teachers.

For the administrators meeting I will “wow” them with a PowerPoint presentation, the
second application. PowerPoint has so many tools that it is an easy choice. I will
execute the CRAP principles when making my slides. I will have special effects,
appropriate colors and a few charts. The presentation will be a powerful selling tool.
When the attendees leave the meeting, they will feel compelled to approve the new
software.

For the instructional presentation for the teachers I will use Loom, the third application.
Loom will allow me to show step-by-step instructions on how to use the new software.
The teachers will see exactly where to move their mouse on the screen. They will see
exactly how the software screens appear and behave. The final presentation will
actually be a series of lessons on the software. Each lesson will build upon the
previous to enable the teacher to become confident with the software.

The Powtoon application allowed me to create an eye opening announcement about an

upcoming meeting for the administration. Without it, I would have had to use some
standard and less effective method for making an announcement, e.g. email, poster.
The PowerPoint software made it possible for me to create a very professional
presentation, illustrating key points and highlighting advantages of the proposed new
software. There probably is no other application that can match PowerPoint’s
capabilities. The Loom application was very beneficial, because I could train all the
teachers in a more efficient and cost effective manner. Without it I would have had to go
to all the schools in person and hold multiple training sessions. The training sessions
would probably have to have been scheduled after school. With Loom each teacher
could set aside some time to fit their individual schedule. The Powtoon presentation will
benefit the school district by generating a high level of interest among the administrative
decision makers for the upcoming meeting. The PowerPoint presentation will benefit
the school district, because it will be a highly effective sales tool. The decision makers
will feel confident about approving the purchase of the new software for the district. The
Loom training series will benefit the school district by providing more effective and less
expensive training for all the teachers. The teachers can take the training whenever it
fits their schedule and they can take it multiple times with no added cost to the district.
