1. What is Climate Change?

Climate Change occurs when changes in Earth's climate
system result in new weather patterns that last for at
least a few decades, and maybe for millions of years. The
Climate system is comprised of interacting parts the
atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, biosphere and
lithosphere.
2. How do you think the garbage accumulate in the
area?
For me, I think the garbage accumulate in the area is
because of the people visiting in that field and the fact
that the location is in the seaside and it is the most
captivating view and a place to relaxed of the people in
Odiongan, Romblon so that there is a big possibility that it
can cause many garbage in that area. The other reason is
that it is because of the tress in that area. The leaves is
falling anywhere every single minute that’s why it can
also cause a lot of garbage. The last reason is that the
garbage that is coming from the seawater.
3. What will be the effect of the garbage in the
environment?
There is a big effect of garbage in the environment. One
of these is the Climate Change which we are experiencing
right now and we all know that climate change has a big
impact not just in the environment but also in all the
living organisms in the earth. It will cause a lot of lives
and problems that will make us all suffer and to the next
generation if we don’t help in the environment.
4. How did you help in mitigating the effects of
Climate Change by responding to the challenge?
I helped in mitigating the effects of Climate Change by
responding to the challenge by means of cleaning the
canals that is full of garbage to at least make some help
to the environment and to lessen the garbage and other
stuff that will cause harm to the people and their health. I
helped not just to lessen the garbage but also to pursue
other people to do the same or even just a simple task to
help our environment and at least lessen the effect of the
Climate Change.
5. What else can you do to mitigate the effects of
Climate Change?
There are a lot of activity and work that can help mitigate
the effects of Climate Change, First is by doing a recycled
materials in our home, Second is I will do a tree planting
activity in the areas that has many garbage but i will
clean it first and motivate the teenagers in our barangay
to do the same. Last is that i will segregate the garbage
and put it on the right trashcan so that it will be
organized and will clean. That simple task can help lessen
the effects of climate change and it will bring a smile to
our environment.

Conclusion
Earth's climate is now changing faster than at any point
of the history in the modern civilizations. primarily it is a
result of the human activities. Global climate change has
already resulted in a wide range of impacts across every
region of the country and also many sectors of the
economy that are expected to grow in the following
decades.
 Biography
I am Maruja Silvano Familara,
and I am twenty years old. I
celebrate my birthday every
17th of June. I live in
Canduyong, Odiongan, Romblon
together with my family and
relatives. I know how to speak a
little bit bicolano dialect,
because when I am in Junior High School, I Studied
in Maysan Valenzuela City with my sister and her
Husband together with his family who is
Bicolanian. I spend almost 3 years there and came
back in Odiongan Romblon in continue my Senior
High School and College year. I love reading books
about mystery and fantasy and horror, I love to
listen to rock and mellow music, writing is my
hobby, it made myself complete. For me reading
and writing is a very relaxing activity, where I can
express my unspeakable emotions and
imaginations towards things about me and the
undefined things of the world. Night is my favorite
part , I love starring at the luminous take star
gazing and it made me think about what else is
hidden in this Universe full of mystery, and it made
me think of what to do to have answers in all the
questions in my mind. I love traveling, seeing new
places make myself complete and makes me so
happy together with my special someone. I can
show my real self to my friends than to my family. I
want to hang out with them everytime I have free
time. I am now taking the Bachelor in Secondary
Education at Romblon State University in my first
year. I want to be a manager of the famous
company someday and I want to build my own
business someday that makes my family
comfortable and stable. My goals in life are to be a
successful business woman someday, having my
life enjoyed and worth living, I want to work hard
for my family, friends and love ones and enjoy my
lifetime. I want to take my family and special
someone to the places I want to reach, like USA,
Maldives, Korea, Europe and other place that has
many unforgettable moments to make and be with
them in every single time of my life.

I am a person who loves science, and I love the

beautiful thoughts about science, people who is
involved in science. It made our lives more
comfortable and faster, it may have disadvantages
but it still gives a lot of advantages, as a student,
it is very important and helpful, in presenting
reports, assignments and other task. It helps me
realized and things that I couldn’t understand.
Many people say we must not develop the
Modernization in our life, but for me, we must
accept the truth that we are living in the modern
world that is prone in advancement and a mush
comfortable life and make a balanced with
modernization and our life before or I must say
that we must enjoy our life with the balance beliefs
of religion and about Science.
 World Wide Web
HISTORY
•In 1989, Berners-Lee began work on the first
World Wide Web server at CERN. He called the
server “ httpd” and dubbed the first client WWW.
Originally, WWW was just a WYSIWYG hypertext
browser/editor that ran in the Next Step
environment.
•Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web
in 1989.
HTML: HyperText Markup Language: The markup
(formatting) language for the web.
WHAT IS WORLD WIDE WEB?
•The World Wide Web (WWW) is combination of all
resources and users on the internet that are using
the Hypertext Transfer Protocol. (HTTP)
•A broader definition comes from the World Wide
Web Consortium. (WC3)
•“ The World Wide Web is the universe of network-
accessible information, an embodiment of human
knowledge.”
•The Web of World Wide Web (w3) is basically a
system of Internet serves that support specially
formatted documents. The documents are
formatted in markup language called HTML
(Hypertext Markup Language) that supports links
to other documents as well as graphics,
audio, and video files.
•The difference between the World Wide Web and
Internet. Internet is a global network comprised of
computers, the World Wide Web is extremely
common application used online and it uses the
hypertext transfer protocol or http, to navigate
across different websites.

BIODIVERSITY AND HUMAN HEALTH

Biodiversity is the variety of all life forms: the

different plants, animals, and micro-organism,
their genes and the ecosystem of which they are a
part. The term Biological diversity is coined by
Raymond F. Dasmann in 1968. Biodiversity is
coined by W.GN Rosen in 1985. Biodiversity
underpins life on Earth, and refers to the variety
found in biota from genetic make-up of plants and
animals to cultural diversity. (WHO) Biodiversity is
the variability among living organisms from all
sources including inter alia, terrestrial, marine,
and other aquatic ecosystem and the ecological
completes of which they are part; this includes
diversity which species, between species and of
ecosystem. (CHD). There are three (3) types of
Biodiversity; Genetic Diversity, Species Diversity
and the Ecosystem Diversity. Direct drivers of
biodiversity loss include land use change, habitat
loss, overexploitation, pollution and climate
change. Many of these drivers affect human health
directly and through their impacts on biodiversity.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSES OF THE PORTFOLIO

 To make them understand the things and

thoughts about Science Technology and Society.
 To help the students in their everyday life by
applying the knowledge about Science.
 To know what is the importance of STS and to
make them aware of what Science Technology
and society is reffering for.
 INFORMATION AGE

The Information Age is also called Computer Age,

the Digital Age and the New Media Age, is coupled
tightly with the advent of personal computers, but
many computer historians trace its beginnings to
the work of the American mathematician Claude E.
Shannon. The Information Age began around the
1970’ s and still going on today. This era brought
about a time period in which people could access
information and knowledge easily. Tim Berner’s-
Lee, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are several
important people of the Information Age. Berner’s-
Lee created the World Wide Web. Jobs who were
created the first effective personal computer called
the Apple 1. The Apple 1 was huge advancement in
computer sciences and it carved the path for the
computers we have now. Apple has created iPhone,
iPod, iMac, and Apple TV. Gates is also a huge force
in the Information Age. Influences of the past on
the Information Age The Renaissance influenced
the Information Age by creating the idea,
inventions while too advanced for the time, the
basic idea was used to develop modern inventions.
There were many different inventions that came
about because of the Information Age, one of
which was the computer. The internet allowed
people to access information with the touch of
buttons.

 My overall Reflection about Science
Technology and Society

Based on my understanding about the topics, activities,

projects and other things that we encountered in Science
Technology and Society. I have learned that it is very
important to have this kind of subject matter in the
students because STS contains a lot of learnings and
strategies on how to deal with problems and struggles in
life especially on how to apply the knowledge in our
everyday life. It focuses not only in the technologies but
also it contains values, history of things, what life of the
people is living in 21st Century and how people and things
evolve in this world and how can they help in our life.
I have learned what are the things that can be use to
create a much better one. How can technologies and
inventions works and how can they influenced us people.
STS also provides something that a students will truly
enjoy and be cooperative and that is when there is a
collaboration of knowledge and learnings in the
discussion. It makes a big sense because we can give our
opinions freely and we can share the knowledge that we
have to others that can be helpful and useful. Science
technology and Society is also the key for a better
tomorrow and for the next generations. It will be the
guide to create new and more advanced things that will
have a big contribution to our society. I think this kind of
knowledge can make us think beyond our limitions.
I learned that in every inventions that the people
created the more the lifes become more easier. I hope that
someday it will be the reason why our economy were
developed completely and people will no longer suffer to
things that they want by the use of advanced technology
and their field of knowledge. But alwats remember that
too much dependant on Technology wil lead you into
something worst. We might realized one day that machine
is the one who are manipulating us people, so better think
wise and be smart enough in choosing some decision for
your better tomorrow.
 Biodiversity and Human Health

I have learned in this topic that Biodiversity and Human

Health is very important to us because it is part of our
everyday life. It is one of the reason on how to identify
whether theor is an abnormalities or their is unbalanced
situation in the ecosystem. I rralized that we need to take
care of our environment because it is also for the sake of
our health and especially to the living organism who are
living in the environment. We also need to develop their
habitats to make them feel safe, comfortable and secure
to all the harm outside their world not by destroying their
habitats and their life because it will also affect the
human life. Their will be a big impact in the distruction of
their habitats and their habitats because it is the one who
is providing foods to us people not only by food but also
to other basic needs and the human health. It is impirtant
to study this topic to understant and know the importance
of our life and how to take care of the environment, how
to preserve their habitats and how to prevent the
unbalanced situation in the ecosystem.
 Reflection for World Wide Web
Before beginning the report, I didn't know much at all
about the World Wide Web or the internet. I didn't even
know they weren't the same thing. Learning about all the
people involved in making both things possible was very
interesting, but the person I enjoyed learning the most
about was Tim Berners-Lee. I was able to develop a new
appreciation for his achievements and his personal
character. This topics that they report connects to national
and state standards for social studies because it
highlights important events, inventions and people. It
brings attention to ideas that influenced development of
communities locally and globally. The emphasis on the
significance of the WWW and the internet on
communication in this project directly relate to social
studies standards. I've gained more research knowledge
and discovered many ways to disseminate information. I
also realized that there is more to an important person
that their achievements and inventions.I appreciate all of
my new-found knowledge about the World Wide Web and
hope that I can continue to learn about it and it's future as
it continues to develop.

Reflection about Information Age

Having grown up during a time of much of this digital
progression I have noticed how it has affected all aspects
of my life. It has made things both easier and more
difficult whether it’s in my family and social lives,
academics and thoughts about the future. My life in
school, technology and resources have become more
readily available and changed drastically. I have noticed
how this change has created more distraction and risk.
Similarly, the digital age has provided many more
resources, opportunities and speed when it comes to the
work world. I can see how some may think that it takes
away from the experience and can have negative effects
but personally I am very curious and interested in the
potential it holds.
I see the potential and hope to pursue a career that
heavily engages in the digital world in order to embrace
and share its possibilities. How much more advanced can
the world get and how far will we take it? Despite the
questioning, I would say I am more curious than anything
for what the future of technology holds.
