Have you ever really put into thought the causes of eating fast food or maybe how it can
affect you in the long run? Today I will be discussing reasons why people are looking down on
fast food and starting to look more in depth to the medical outcomes of consuming fast food.
After reading this I want people to maybe think twice when getting fast food, doing this could
cause benefits to help you make your life easier when it comes to decision making.
In the article “Is Fast Food the New Tobacco” the writer’s opinion is that fast food is starting to
be looked down upon just like tobacco since the 1930s. Food has not had enough time spent
being made causing dietary implications, as well as being harmful to the body like tobacco. The
larger issue that this article is stating that we need to be careful of what we put into our bodies
when it comes to smoking or eating so it can possibly safe our lives. The government plays a big
part in this article for the simple fact they have not been putting restrictions on fast food or
letting the public be aware of the outcomes that come with eating a quick meal to get through the
timeless day.
There has recently been a growing concern regarding obesity and weight gain. The
medical field has grown a great concern with research showing obesity and weight gain have risk
factors because on the population’s dependency for fast food and as well as other diseases that
relate to weight gain such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and obesity being prevalent.
Research also shows fast food can cause impatient choices and behaviors day by day. Another
issue has been in found that fast food effects personal savings or a saving habit.
How can the audience trust these ideas given by the author? Well to the normal human
we all fast food isn’t healthy, and we tend to eat out or go out a lot making it a activity instead of
trying to put healthy things in our bodies and exercise more. In the article it shows that people
will except fast food because it creates more time which equals productivity to get more time do
work on school, clean the house, study etc. This all really is mind blowing but society keeps
excepting fast food to get more time for themselves instead of doing a meal prep or taking the
time to plan meals through the week and having to go to the store. “Is Fast Food the New
Tobacco” states that is it causes by our structural systems including policies and practices in the
The emotional side of this paper is stressing concern for our society on what to do about
this situation exactly, in my opinion this paper was written to help people understand that this is
a real problem and we want our population to last and stay healthy and not rely on processed
food that should never go into our bodies in the first place. I think this paper is overall a way of
screaming out we need to watch what we put into our bodies because they are our temple and
what helps us function and do our daily tasks throughout our whole lives.
The only counter argument would be if we eat fast food that gives us time to do more
throughout the day to get more work done, and if we get more work done and get more tasks
completely them society labels that as being successful. Who is the writer calling out to? I would
say any of the population that lives a non- healthy life style. The reason being is most of our
population isn’t healthy from the food they consume, or obesity and weight gain wouldn’t be a
In this article the writer really doesn’t relate to the readers but does have many shared
values with other articles that were cited within the paper, as well with getting research and facts
that show the medical field is starting to really worry about our population and how to fix people
from consuming fast food before there is an epidemic. The paper shows a very logical
standpoint, maybe not giving enough emotional side or understanding that fast food isn’t that big
of a concern for society because they might have to much going on in their lifes to really bring
The language used in this paper is very easy to comprehend for the average college
student therefore most of society should be able to understand this article with no effort or
thinking about what the author is trying to say, the writer makes it very clear on the problems
and the side effects of doing this but sadly doesn’t really give any type of solutions to prevent
this which is what I think what the readers will want. Overall I think it does achieve the writers
