Genetic Engineering Consequences 2

In Jurassic World, scientists were able to produce a plethora of genetically modified

dinosaurs. At first, it was believed to be a great attraction and economic magnet. However, this

took a turn for the worse when the dinosaurs began to escape. Mishaps like such could take place

if genetic engineering goes in the wrong direction. With this in mind, genetic engineering is not

worth the negative results.

For years, geneticists have attempted to unlock the seemingly safe road to longer

life span. Genetic engineering is the reason behind that. If scientists find a key to this

experiment, then we will all live longer. What will happen once we overpopulate? Thanks to the

never-ending life-cycle, this world has thrived. With so many people living now, there will not

be enough necessities for everyone.

Genetic engineering also eliminates the genetic diversity that we need. Every

individual on this earth is equipped with special and unique features that they only have. The

DNA, which codes for proteins in an organism, will become more similar or even identical in a

species. The offsprings will inherit the traits and so forth. We should maintain genetic diversity

because the increased variability in DNA will provide a better opportunity for organisms to adapt

to a changing environment.

Genetic defects are outcomes we must keep in mind too. Our bodies are not all the

same. Unaccounted diseases could pop up at any given time. In the human body, there are too

many secrets that scientists have yet to uncover. In the midst, scientists may stumble across a

problem they can not handle. Much bigger issues will take place then.
Genetic Engineering Consequences 3

In comparison to the 1st paragraph, genetic engineering can go too far. For

example, through research, scientists may learn to do gender changes for babies. What will

happen for families in countries like China, where the preferred gender is a boy? I understand

that there are many instances in which genetic modifications have been used for the better.

However, for centuries this world has thrived without that burden and we are still capable of

doing it now. The best option is to minimize the use of genetic engineering and only use it a way

to help stop diseases like cancer.
