Mid unit Essay

Beowulf was a barbaric warrior in his time period born to battle evil demons. For the

people of his village. Anglo Saxons were notorious people who inhabited Great Brittan who

spoke Old English. Beowulf strong but great warrior with a hint of greed for honor but not only

that he defeated Grendel and his mother after 50 winters his finale battle, he fought a mighty

dragon. The three values of this story are Bravery, Evil, and Cowardice. Anglo Saxons society

created this great story of Beowulf strong brave warrior. “Often for undaunted Courage fate

spares the man it has not already marched” (Beowulf line 572- 573). This quote is referring to

Beowulf being a strong warrior he cannot die fate has not claimed him as a trophy. Bravery isn’t

just born it is forged in the flames of honor. “Brave men staggering under the weight of

Grendel’s skull. Too heavy for fewer than four of them to handle” (lines 590 – 591 Beowulf).

This Quote is a pure example of the leadership that Beowulf has with his fellow warrior's

team work is key to survival, hopefully this value lasts long enough. Beowulf is a brave

honorable king who served for 50 winters in protecting his kingdom with fists of iron.

Good vs evil will light overcome darkness or the other way around Grendel pure

mass destruction, Beowulf pure bravery. Beowulf is a strong opponent the only one who

could defeat Grendel it’s like Grendel and Beowulf were born to fight it out on the battle

field. Grendel was hoping for tears and blood shed sadly he got what he rightfully

deserved. “Grendel came hoping to kill anyone he could trap on his trip to high herot”

(line 235- 236 page 46). This quote shows Anglo Saxon value of Good vs Evil because

Grendel wants to kill anyone in his path. Grendel was spawn of pure evil, hatred is shown

for Christian music. “Ancestral swords raised and ready determined to protect their

prince if they could their courage was great, but all wasted” (line 317 – 319). This Quote

shows confident and brave warriors helping with assistance towards their prince.

This passage from Beowulf was mainly focused on the character traits of good vs

evil for example Beowulf is a true living reorientation of good while Grendel is not but

the opposite of that which makes him different bravery and honor.

Beowulf men armed with swords and armor strong but cowardly when Beowulf

needed the, the most they filed away in a cowardly manner. When Grendel met Beowulf

for the first time, he intimidated him so much Grendel decided to flee away without any

hesitation towards his decision. “Desiring nothing but escape his claws had been caught

he was trapped that trip to Heorot was miserable journey for the writhing monster” (line

287-289 page 47). Being scared is one thing but causing destruction then finally meeting

your match in the battle field doesn’t give you the right to run away like a cowardice dog.

Cowards are not honorable in the epic story but shamed upon, shunned by fellow

warriors. “how you bolted and ran none of your race will have anything left but their

lives and death would be better for them all” (lines 859- 861). Beowulf men are

cowardice towards Beowulf when they realize they might not make it out alive because

they’re fighting this giant big dragon. Beowulf men abandon him in a giant spooky cave

which is a value of cowardice behavior towards Beowulf.

Beowulf known for his bravery and honorable behavior towards his fellow

warriors not cowardly but brave. Beowulf is an honorable king he never gave up on his

people defending his giant castle for fifty winters which brave kind a little nudge of greed

but still strong warrior who defeated Grendel and Grendel’s mother but met his destiny

with the dragon but was honored in a shrine to commemorate his fellow loyal best man

Hrothgar. Knowledge learned in Beowulf is courage honor bravery and respect being a

hero will have its up’s and downs just remember to adventure into the world ready to help

people or just do a bit a kindness like Beowulf you never know what adventures lie

dormant in this world.
