Assignment Title: Q1 End of Unit Social Issue

Student Writing Goal: My writing goal is to score an 80% or higher. I want my paper to be well thought out and
reasonable facts on what my issue is and how it should be resolved. Also to have liminal grammar errors.
What was the purpose of this writing assignment?
The purpose of this writing assignment was to research a social issue and argue how it’s good or bad and how
it should be resolved. A benefit of writing this assignment is to understand the other side of the argument
which was the rebuttal section. It made me understand why my argumentative issue can also work in another
way as well. This issue of the death penalty is a real world issue and was debatable in real life which makes
this assignment beneficial.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
I performed good but not as well as I should’ve. According to the writing rubric I should’ve stayed more on
topic and provided more details. I had some grammar issues but those are easily fixable. In general, I
performed mid standards but can do better next time when I put more time into an essay.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
What I did well on was my vocabulary. Rather than sounding broad and like I didn’t know what I was talking
about, I added/replaced word that sounded less intellect. When I added these words, it gave the essay a
stronger meaning. For example, instead of saying “bad”, I’d replace the word with “horrific” describing the
crimes that led to the social issue of the death penalty.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

I’ve chosen to revise this assignment now because if I had to write another assignment I’ll learn from my
mistakes and therefore write a more well thought out essay. Also, if I rewrite this assignment, I’ll receive a
much better score and learn how to revise my assignments before I turn them in.

What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
My next writing assignment I will provide more evidence, revise, and take time on the essay. I will do this by
putting priorities first, going in depth for evidence/quotes, and working each and every day on the assignment
before its due date.

To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
I wanted to score a better score than I did. In order to do this, I was supposed to read directions carefully and
ask more questions if I didn’t understand something. Also, if I followed the rubric more briefly, I’d also have
a much better score. I’m aware of my mistakes and I’m determined to improve and grow from them in my
following essay I receive.
