Technology is a vital tool in the sports world.

It can help transform game film into more

than just film on a screen. If utilized effectively, technology can be the gateway to a more

efficient and successful season. As a future coach I plan on coaching soccer at the collegiate

level. As a present player, I know the effects and benefits of using technology in practice and off

the field meetings. It helps train the athletes mind which put to the test with their physical ability

can help prepare them and make them a danger on the field to their opponents.

The app I found that I believe would truly help develop my players is the Hudl technique

application. In using this app, I plan to film every game and practice. This app lets you film with

your phone or video camera and then transfer it to your computer for easier access and visibility.

After compiling all the film, I plan to break it up into categories for my players convenience. The

app allows me to break up the film by each player or each position. This means that when I

wanted to have a film session with my midfielders because the team we are going to face has a

strong middle so we need to get prepared I can access film clips of all the different players in the

midfield or plays that the midfield carried out. After breaking down the film I will go through

each set of clips and add feedback. Slow motion is also a plus side of this app. For certain

movements or plays I can slow them down to show players or the team that play in more detail.

Overall, this app will allow me to advance my players knowledge of the game by watching

themselves on film and learning from their mistakes. This app will also help keep track of
statistics and work on shape, and trick plays. Lastly, this app will help me build stronger

relationships with my players because it will give me a chance to sit down and talk with them

about their progress. It will open up the room to questions and opportunity for me to get to know

them better as well as their playing style. The stronger our relationships are the better team

chemistry we will have.

This application is an important piece to my coaching success. At the college level,

players are looking to develop their already very advanced skills. That is why this app is so

important to their success because it gives them a chance to visually see their mistakes and

receive feedback on how to improve themselves. Being a college athlete, film is a very helpful

tool. From my experience playing and feeling as if you are doing something correctly is much

different than the reality of the play you are thinking in your head. It is nice to be able to go back

and see how much space you had or the other runs on the other side of the field that if I would

have picked up my head I would have seen it. I think this app allows players to not only learn but

become aware of themselves as players and their tendencies. It gives them a sixth sense of where

they are on the field and allows them to notice players around them that in the game they may

not have noticed before. For next time, they will be able to remember that and may change their

movement or decision making for the better. College athletes could benefit so much from this

app. They don’t need to learn the basics. At that level they are seeking to advance their skills and

find little ways to get an advantage over their opponents. That is why the Hudl technique app

would be so effective for their level of play.
