6th Grade Music Technology Project:

I can statements/ Objectives:


1. I can demonstrate concert etiquette as an active listener.
2. I can connect historical significance to my choral repertoire.
3. I can connect other forms of music to my choral repertoire.
4. I can use technology in a respectful and resourceful way.

SOL’s:
MCB.7 The student will explore historical and cultural aspects of music by
1. identifying the cultures, musical styles, composers, and historical periods associated
with
the music literature being studied;
2. identifying ways in which culture and technology influence choral music and vocal
music
styles;
3. identifying the relationship of choral music to the other fine arts and other fields of
knowledge;
5. identifying ethical standards as applied to the use of social media and copyrighted
materials; and
6. demonstrating concert etiquette as an active listener.

MCB.8 The student will analyze and evaluate music by


1. describing works of music, using inquiry skills and music terminology;

MCB.9 The student will investigate aesthetic concepts related to music by


4. identifying ways in which music evokes sensory, emotional, and intellectual responses,
including ways in which music can be persuasive.

Procedures:
1. Explaining the lesson:
○ “Does anyone know what a QR code is”
○ We will be using these to watch videos that have connections with our music.
○ You get to use your phone! This is a valuable skill to learn. Phones are wonderful
for staying connected, but can also be a great resource to provide information.
○ Demonstrate how this works, using your phone
2. Setting the tone/ guidelines:
○ Rules using the phones:
i. Using your phone is a privilege for this activity, if one person is not acting
respectfully he or she will be written up.
ii. For this activity, you will get into groups, you are not to work with anyone
else in class. I have fairly put these groups together so that you can focus
and work more productively.
iii. You may use your own phone, share with someone in your group, or
check out one of the school’s ITouches. Keep in mind that this is school
property and if they become damaged, you will have to pay to fix it.
3. List off all of the groups, the teacher will project the groups so the students remember.
4. Pass out the worksheets, get into groups
5. Working collaboratively throughout the rest of class

Talk through the answers of the worksheet, share and discuss reasoning
