BEHAVIOUR & NUMERICAL MODELLING OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES (CIVIL - 710)

ASSIGNMENT # 2
TASKS
Develop a MATLAB program that can (i) calculate and plot the moment-curvature response for the
reinforced concrete cross-section that is described below. Assume that the concrete does not support any
tensile stress when the tensile strain is greater than cracking strain, εcr. This plot should include only the
response to positive bending (tension on bottom face). If your program does not seem to be working for
the I-Shaped section that is shown below, then please provide your solution for the response of a simpler
section.
The predicted moment-curvature response of this cross-section should be for positive bending when the
axial load is approximately 10% of the axial compressive capacity of this cross-section (i.e. N ≈ 0.1 Ag f´c).

Pre-Peak Response k = 1 (0  c  c)

Post-Peak Response k = 0.67 + fc/62 (c < c, fc is in MPa)
