This semester I learned many things for becoming a better writer. I picked up many skills
throughout the year. Coming into this class second semester I was unsure of many things, only
knew a little of how something was needed to be written. Every day I was able to test my skills
and use them in every day work to help me improve my writing. These skills that I picked up
Me as a writer it takes me a while to process everything I need put into the paper. My
writing process is very difficult. Mostly when I’m doing any kind of work, I need some kind of
music or tv playing. I need to be able to hear something else that makes me want to write the
paper rather than just it being dead silent. “I am a multiple type of learner; I have many different
ways to study and learn. One of the types is that I need to physically do it while you’re
explaining how to do it (Reflection 1). This was from a small paper I wrote on what type of
learner I am. It explains the many different ways I need to do something in order for it to get
done and be done correctly. For many people studying and being able to write papers could be
very different they might need it to be silent in order for them to think.
One of the first things that I was taught was how to format my paper correctly and how
not to plagiarize. MLA papers are very precise on how they are formatted, in the top left you will

have your name, instructors name, the course and the date its due. It will all be in Times font 12
as well as double spaced through the whole paper. The basics for MLA have many things like
the in-text citation, meaning you quote something from anywhere and you would put the authors
name and the page number you got it from. It also has the works cited page, listing every cite
that you use to write the paper. Plagiarism is theft, and it has no place in an academic institution
(syllabus 6).
Another main thing we did throughout the year was read then write something small, so
we understand the material we read. Reading the NFG and writing journals every week. The
journals we wrote every week help us the students improve our writing, being able to read the
topic and write a paper. Writing something every week could improve the writing by just fixing
the problems from the last paper and always improving for a better journal the next week.
Personally, me as a writer, I’m able to read something and write a very skilled paper.
Next, we had our first main paper that was due, we needed to write about. We examined a
visual text and out into 3 categories ethos, pathos, and logos. When writing a paper you need to
first plan out what you’re going to write. For me I needed to be able to finish my rough draft so I
could get other students’ vision on my paper, I really need someone to always revise my papers
just in case I miss something. When revising my paper, I noticed I need to make big changes, in
order to put what I want to say in perspective. Students often think when fixing/revising your
paper its not fixing the grammar, spelling its so that your perspective of the paper could be seen
more clearly. This class taught me that instead of just re-reading your paper and trying to fix the
grammar, it’s better to use a hard copy and fix/correct all the problems with a pen being able to

see what you’re fixing and taking out of the paper you wrote, especially the parts that where just
thrown in there just run on and to try a add a little more detail.
Through the year I’ve learned many things that will help me for the future to write a
paper. I wrote many papers or even just small paragraphs in order for my writing process to hit a
level of greatness, I’m still working on the small little details in order for my writing to improve.
I understand how to effectively to use my time to write a “great” paper. Using the small
improvements to fix the grammar and the small things. Being able to write the “great A” paper
you need to be passionate and want to actually write about something you care about. In order
for the “A” paper it needs to take time not being rushed, you are putting time and thinking about
everything you need to put in the paper. The paper you really feel passionate about is the paper
