The two mounting holes near the top of the enclosure are keyholes and
should be mounted first. The lower hole can then be drilled using the
enclosure as a template.
Mounting hardware should be sufficient to hang a 25 pound (11.34 kg)
load. Wall space required to fully open the enclosure doors is twice the
width of the enclosure. The door opens from right to left as you face the
enclosure. It is recommended that the enclosure be mounted in a location
where the door can be fully opened.
For hollow wall construction studded with metal or wood framing and
sheathed with drywall, plaster, or plywood, use a toggle bolt or #10
reusable anchor.
Each of the three re-usable anchors or toggle bolts used must be rated
for a minimum of 17.62 lbs (8 kilograms) and be the appropriate size for
the sheathing thickness. Use #10 size bolts as a minimum and follow the
manufacturer’s instructions.
Use 3/16 inch #10 concrete screws. Each of the three #10 screws must
be rated for a minimum of 17.62 lbs (8 kilograms). Follow the
manufacturer’s instructions.
Use inserts that are adequate for use in concrete, such as conical lead or
flanged polypropylene that will be adequate for installation. The inserts
must be individually rated to support a minimum of 17.62 lbs (8 kilograms)
and must be able to support a #10 screw. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions.
Before you install the rack-mount unit, consider the following operating
environment issues shown in the following table.

CAUTION: Make sure all power is off before connecting any reader to a
blade. Perform all wire cutting terminations away from the
enclosure because stray wire ends may come in contact
with one of the blades and cause a short-circuit.
Access control blades have two, 7-pin reader connectors mounted on the
blade, as shown in Figure 35.

The color-coded wires from the reader wiring harness must be connected
to the 7-pin connector. The color-coding for Power (red), Ground (black),
Data 0 (green), and Data 1 (white) is Security Industry Association (SIA)
standard.
Reader Beeper control: This varies by manufacturer and model.
Refer to the documentation provided by the reader manufacturer for
details on your particular reader. Typically, the reader will beep for the
duration of a momentary unlock, or until the door is opened. This
occurs whether the door is unlocked by a valid card read or from the
application. If no beeper is desired, do not connect the beeper control
wire.
Reader LED control: This varies by manufacturer and model. Some
use two-wire LED control and some use one-wire control. Refer to the
documentation provided by the reader manufacturer for details on
your particular reader. Control involving signal pulsing to change LED
color is not supported.
The access control blade has both red and green LED control
connections. The 7-pin reader connector wiring is shown in Figure 35.
Note: LED display behavior for your particular reader may vary. Refer to
the reader manufacturer documentation.
Inputs are dry contact only. An input looks for a change in resistance, not
a change in voltage.
CAUTION: Make sure all power is off before wiring and/or connecting
any input to a blade. Do not feed any voltage into the inputs.
This may cause the input to function improperly and
potentially void the warranty.
Perform all wire cutting terminations away from the
enclosure because stray wire ends may come in contact with
one of the blades and cause a short-circuit.
5. If you are installing the input device, refer to the input device manual
to determine if the device circuit is normally open (NO) or normally
closed (NC).
6. Select the input supervision type you want, and then install the input
device.
CAUTION: Make sure all power is off before connecting any input to a
blade.

Input blades have eight male, 2-pin input connectors mounted on the
blade, as shown in Figure 37.
Input blades and temperature blades look very much alike. To tell them
apart, look at the bar code sticker on the back of the blade. The numerals
on the bar code sticker for an input blade begin with “01,” as shown
above. The numerals on the bar code sticker for a temperature blade
begin with “08.”
If more inputs are required beyond the four provided on the access
control blade or the eight provided on the input blade, additional access
or input blades can be installed in the enclosure.

When the system is not running, pressing the Power button starts the
system. The system status LED blinks while the system is starting up.
You will hear a single beep when the startup process is complete.
When the system is running, you can use the Power button to perform an
orderly or hard shutdown:
Orderly Shutdown: Momentarily pressing the Power button performs
the same function as an orderly shutdown performed through the
software. The system status LED starts to blink, indicating a shutdown
of services. You will hear a double beep once the shutdown process
is complete.
To restart the S2 controller after an orderly shutdown, momentarily
press the Power button again.
Hard Shutdown: holding down the Power button for longer than 5
seconds performs a hard shutdown of the S2 controller, killing all
processes immediately. The system status LED blinks until the S2
controller has shut down, at which point you can release the button.
You will hear no beeps.
To restart the S2 controller after a hard shutdown, press the Power
button momentarily, or power cycle S2 controller by turning off power
to the system and then turning it back on. The system status LED will

1. Using the tip of a pencil or pen, activate the Revert button (shown in
Figure 60) and hold it closed until you hear a single beep (in
approximately 3 seconds).
2. A double beep indicates that S2 controller is restarting.
3. After 15 to 30 seconds, the system will beep three times. This
indicates that the following controller settings have been reset.
The IP address is reset to 192.168.0.250.
The subnet mask is reset to 255.255.255.0.
The gateway, DNS 1, and DNS 2 are each reset to 192.168.0.1.
The Revert procedure also:
Resets the web server port to port 80.

If you ever need to reset factory defaults for the S2 node, you use the red
Revert button on the M1-3200 blade.
Hold down the Revert button. Each of the four debug LEDs will blink
sequentially and then they will all blink on and off in unison.
When they all blink on and off in unison, you know the revert process
has completed, returning the S2 Network Node to its factory default
settings:
Static IP Address: 192.168.0.251
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
DCHP: false

factory defaults.
The total current that one S2 system can provide to all readers is 2800
milliamps. Each access control blade can supply up to a total of 400
milliamps at 12VDC to readers. For example, an access control blade can
supply 400 milliamps to one reader or 200 milliamps to each of two
readers. If the readers require more current, or a different voltage, then a
separate UL 294 or UL 603 Power Limited Supply must be used.
Many Wiegand-compatible proximity readers from HID require 200
milliamps or less. An S2 system can power fourteen such readers directly
(14x200 milliamps = 2.8A). Long range proximity readers may require
more power. Refer to the reader manufacturer documentation for power
specifications.
Other than readers, any non-S2 components in the system (such as
The S2 NetBox and S2 Network Node are compatible with UL Listed 26-
