ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We place on record and warmly acknowledge the continuous encouragement,

invaluable supervision, timely suggestions and inspired guidance offered by our
guide ENGR. Ilyas Ahmad, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering,
University of Engineering & Technology Taxila, in bringing us the opportunity to
work on Intelligent Distributed Autonomous Power System Model as final year
project and compilation of project proposal.
Abstract:
Current trend to control and monitor energy is moving towards the automated agent
technologies which is known as multiagent technologies. This system provides
intelligent energy control and management in microgrids. This system offers
flexibility, extensibility, autonomy and reduce maintenance cost. The objective of
this project is to develop a multiagent system that enable real time management of a
microgrid. These include securing critical load, load shedding management and fault
detection and autonomous tripping of power system. This system is proposed for
distribution level where there will develop connection between smart grid and the
microgrid. Here we will develop initially a model using ETAP or MATLAB of such
intelligent distributed autonomous power system than latter a practical model which
will to great extend show these functionalities.

Introduction:
Intelligent Distributed Autonomous Power Systems; micro grid; renewable
energy; critical load; load shedding.

We Use Renewable Energy Technologies (i.e. wind, solar etc.), we proposed to

model and analyze the operation of an Intelligent Distributed Autonomous Power
System (IDAPS), which provided the opportunities for load control and dispatch of
distributed energy sources, especially renewables.
This effort resulted in the intelligent distributed autonomous power grid that could
integrate renewable energy technologies and minimize reliance on external energy
resources, and thereby reducing fuel and Natural Resources consumption. This
capability would facilitate the implementation of renewable energy projects and
enhance energy security and reliability for the consumers and the utility.
What is the Basic idea of Project?
The basic idea of the project is to generate energy by private organization using
Renewable Energy Technologies (i.e. wind, solar etc.) and transmit it into the
WAPDA (major supplier of electricity in Pakistan.) lines into the grid station by a
mini grid station. Furthermore, the WAPDA uses the energy generated by means of
Renewable Energy Technologies (i.e. wind, solar etc.) and channels it into mini
substation using WAPDA transmission line, then transmitted for distribution to the
consumers use which includes balancing of load, balanced power factor, frequency
and voltage variation of power added into WAPDA lines and reliability of power
transferred to the consumer.

Why use idea of DER?

The idea behind the use of DER is to build small units of local generated energy and
connect it to the grid using control unit known as mini grid station to tackle the need
of Energy crisis in Pakistan, improvement in the load shedding, increasing the
reliability between consumers and utilizer and improving the competition and
generation of better and reliable source of energy for the future and present of
Pakistan.

Targets of Project
I. Perform demand management during normal operation conditions.
II. Island the microgrid from main grid once an upstream fault is detected.
III. Secure critical load and shed non critical load according to given priority
during emergency
IV. Resynchronize microgrid to maintain after upstream fault is cleared.
V. Integrate distributed energy resources known as DER a small scales unit of
local generation connected to the grid at distribution level. i.e. Rooftop Solar,
PV units, Natural Gas, Wind Turbines and Fuel Cells etc.
