My Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of teaching is progressivism. This means that I would rather focus

on the child more than the subject. I believe that the purpose of education is to help kids

grow in a classroom while also learning about themselves. I want my students to

achieve many things while in school. I want them to find out what their strengths and

weaknesses are. I would also like them to test their ideas by active experimentation

rather than taking tests and doing a bunch of homework.

The students responsibility in my classroom will be to first off, get their things

done that need to be, but secondly I would like them to find out what works for them. By

this I mean I want them to know what goes well for them in the classroom and what

doesn't. I don't mean that if we were doing a class project as a group that a student can

sit out if they don't like this way. I just want them to understand that not everything is

going to work out the best and they are going to have to do some things that they rather

wouldn't participate in. I want to be able to help them with whatever they struggle with

though. I want to try and help them find a way to do something that they aren't very

good at.

My personal goals as a teacher will be to help kids grow and improve in

everything they do. I want my students to achieve many things while they are in my

classroom. I want them to feel comfortable in my classroom and know that they can

express their creativity and freedom. I want to start helping them learn that there are

many things that they are capable of doing in life. I want to do many hands on activities
in my classroom so I can walk around and check on my students to see if they need any

help. I don't want to hand out many different types of tests and quizzes to my students. I

want my students to learn not memorize what I teach in class. As a teacher I want my

students to know that I will be there for them and help them through whatever they

need. I will do my best to help them whether it has to do with school or home life or

even a different subject in school. If I'm not very good at the start of helping them, then I

want to get better so they for sure know that they can come to me for whatever they

need. If a student of mine is having trouble in math class I would let them know when I

would be available to help them try to finish the assignment to make sure that they got

the help they needed.
