2. Write the broad classification of fluids (3)
3. Define path line and stream line. (2)
4. Write the differential form of X-component of equation of motion (3)
5. Define friction factor. (2)

Section - B (50 Marks)
11. (a) Derive barometric equation. (6)
(b) Derive manometric equation for a U-Tube manometer. (4)
(OR)
12. The temperature of the earth’s atmosphere drops by 5oC for every 1000m of elevation
above the earth’s surface. If the air temperature at ground level is 15oC and the pressure
760 mmHg, at what elevation is the pressure 380mm Hg? Assume that the air behaves as an
ideal gas. (10)
13. Derive Bernoulli’s equation considering skin friction and pump work. (10)

14. The frictional pressure drop for flow of a fluid through a long, straight, circular pipe
depends upon the length, ‘l’, diameter, ‘d’ and the average height of the wall roughness, ‘e’ of
the pipe, the average velocity, ‘u’, the density and the viscosity of the fluid. Use Buckingham
method to make a dimensional analysis of the system. (10)

15. Derive Ergun equation to calculate the pressure drop through packed bed. (10)
16. (a) Explain particulate and bubbling fluidization (6)
(b) Write the applications of fluidization (4)
17. Explain the construction and working of a centrifugal pump. (10)
