“
THE 2017-18 SEASON
Coming off of our 16th NCAA Championship
qualification we had expectations of continuing our mojo
from the 19 previous years that I have been at NSU.
We struggled this year based on our standard. We
had some events we were competitive in and had a
chance to get the “W”. However, we had some major
hiccups in some vital Central Region events. Those
hiccups cost us our bid and same goes for the MIAA.
We had some individual successes to be sure. Bryce
Newton stepped up to be our best player and MVP. He
had an incredible improvement from the year before.
Casey Paul came to us in the spring and made a huge
impact with some solid finishes in some major events. I
would argue that if we had Casey’s performance in the
fall we would have made our 17th NCAA Championships.
Hunter Pennington had a great top-10 at the MIAA’s
and should give him tremendous confidence going
into next year. Matt Willingham earned Academic All-
American status. I am very proud of that young man, he
persevered and kept fighting to create some nice success
for himself this past year.
“
We once again hosted one of the premier men’s
tournaments in the nation at Muskogee Golf Club in the
fall. Very proud of that fact.
Bryce Newton had a team low 74.04 per-round stroke average for the RiverHawks last season.

2018-19 SEASON
We qualified for the NCAA Championships for the
17th year which is frankly, unprecedented. We were
ranked in the top-25 for the 20th straight year by being
in the ranking at the first of the year (principally from
finishing top 25 in the final poll from the spring of 17...
unprecedented as well).
We had the honor of fighting our guts out to the final
putt which gave us our third MIAA Championship in a
row. We had four All-MIAA player, the freshman of the
year, and two Academic All-Americans.
Our team experienced the true thrill of victory (MIAA
Title) and the agony of defeat as we were easily inside
the cut with three holes to play at the NCAA Regional to
advance to our ninth NCAA Final, only to struggle in and
drop us out on the last hole.
I am super proud of the consistent success our
women’s team has achieved over 20 years. We have four
of our five returning starters back for the upcoming year.
These four have experienced amazing success during
their tenure here. They have the opportunity to win four
MIAA’s in a row.
Ebba was solid all year and clearly one of the best
in the region and the nation. Kelsey had a solid year.
“
Lexi came on strong and was huge for us at the MIAA
Championship and nearly carried us to the NCAA Final
all by herself the last two rounds.
Next year should be special.
Ebba Moberg was named All-Region by the WGCA for the second straight season.
