Steroids in Baseball

Collier, Robert “How Steroids Fundamentally Changed Baseball” SportTechie, SportTechie,

March 17 of 2015, https://www.sporttechie.com/how-steroids-fundamentally-changed-

baseball/, April 5 of 2019

In this article Robert Collier talks about how the use of anabolic steroids improved the

physical capabilities of the players, the risks these steroids cause to the players that used them

and how the game has changed in the era of steroids were being used compared to the actual

game where is mostly not used anymore. The author expresses how the game has enormously

changed through the years by analyzing the last decades of baseball statistics with the current

ones, knowing that in the last decade steroids were used a lot more than nowadays because of the

existing rules that ban these substances. Collier research focus on the effects of the anabolic

steroids in baseball players and how they change their participation in the professional league.

This article is useful for my research as the author claims that anabolic steroids improve players

strength meaning their offense records and stats would be better than they normally would be,

helping the teams they are playing in to win more games. In conclusion, these banned

substances, even though they are harmful and illegal, are being used by players risking their

careers just to try to boost their physical capabilities. This article will be the base of my research

“Don’t Let Cheaters into Baseball’s Hall of Fame” The Washington post, The Washington post,

In this article the author talks about two players who used PEDs or Performance

Enhancing Drugs, Barry Bonds who is the and Roger Clemens, and why they should not be

allowed to enter Cooperstown, better known as the baseball Hall of Fame, which is home for the

best baseball players in history. The author expresses how these players got a considerable

advantage over other players due to PEDs, prolonging their careers and boosting their physical

strengths, Barry Bonds got to beat the record for most home runs in one season while Roger

Clemens was an unbeatable pitcher. The authors research focus on why baseball players that

used PEDs or any other substance should not be allowed in Cooperstown and the existing debate

of this problem that hasn’t come to a solution yet. This article is useful for my research as the

author supports my opinion and arguments on why steroids or PEDs should not be allowed in

baseball, and this article is also helpful as it explains two major examples of users of PEDs in

baseball. In conclusion, even if you are great at baseball like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens,

the use of steroids will be penalized affecting your career and status. This article will be helpful

for the base of my research since it has supportive statements and clearly explained examples of

why PEDs are bad and considered a way of cheating.

Tures, John “Once Again, No Steroids in Baseball, For Now…” LiketheDew, LikeTheDew

January 27 of 2019, https://likethedew.com/2019/01/27/once-again-no-steroids-in-

baseball-for-now/#.XK7MF-hKiUk, April 10 2019

In this article, John Tures explains very precisely the main points of what would happen

if baseball players that used anabolic steroids are admitted in the historic Hall of Fame. The

author claims how tragic would be admitting these persons that cheated hoping to get better

results in a way that is known to be illegal, because this would be a bad influence to younger

generations who may think that they can be able to use anabolic steroids just because great

players have done it. Tures research focus on the importance to not allow this injustice happens;

he explains every point in a concrete and precise way with good arguments that I consider

relevant and very informative. This article is useful for my research as the author explains every

negative point about allowing these cheaters to be a part of the Hall of Fame and claiming that

anabolic steroids in baseball should be penalized, supporting my ideas and statements about this

topic. In conclusion, the use of anabolic steroids bring a way bigger list of downsides, not only

for the user but also for the game and fans that may follow their favorite players steps. This

article will be helpful for the base of my research as it explains the negative points of the use of

anabolic steroids, how they are considered a way of cheating and lying and how they can be

harmful and addictive supporting my whole base of ideas for this research.
