CEMENT STABILIZATION REPORT

General:
The methods for stabilization of soil are of following types:
1. Mechanical Stabilization
2. Physical Stabilization
3. Chemical Stabilization
4. Physio-chemical Stabilization
Quite often, some additives are added into soils to improve the stability of the material. The
method of stabilization is named after the name of additive being added to the soil to improve
its characteristics for stability such as:

 Cement-stabilization
 Lime- stabilization
 Chloride- stabilization
 Bitumen- stabilization
 Resin- stabilization

Cement Stabilization:
It is quite frequently used in road construction to improve the stability of the sub-grade. Any
soil which can be economically pulverized can be stabilized with cement. Heavy clays are
difficult to pulverize and are not suitable for cement stabilization. The best soils for cement
stabilization are well graded and gravel mixtures with at least 10% of the material passing #200
sieve, and a uniformly coefficient of less than 5.
Lab Cement Stabilization
We worked on 8% cement as an additive to soil.
We prepared 5 samples on which we tested unconfined compression test to find their
strength at 0 day, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days.
We prepared two samples on 23 November 2018, one of which was tested after 21
days and other after 28 days and also, we prepared three samples on 28 November
2018 which were tested at 0 day, 7 days and 14 days.

Preparation of Samples:
We took 160 g of soil and then added 14% moisture. Then we add 8% cement of its
total weight. And then prepared the samples one by one in the mould. In this way, we
prepared five samples at their times. We tested one sample on first day of
preparation and placed the other samples in the lab and tested on their respective
days.

Comments & Results:

With the passage of days, unconfined compressive strength of soil is increasing due to
presence of cement. It means that soil is gaining more strength as the no of days is
passing. Also the moisture content due to the conditions of lab is increasing.
