TERMS

IN THE SUMMARY STATISTICS BOX:

1. Mean
This is sometimes known as the average. It is found by adding up all of the given data and dividing by the number of data entries.

2. Median
This is the middle value when the data entries are arranged in an increasing/decreasing order.

3. Mode
This is the data that occurs most frequently.

4. Standard Error
This term measures the accuracy with which a sample represents a population. For example, we know for a fact that a sample mean
deviates from the actual mean of a population. This deviation is called the standard error.

5. Standard Deviation
This is used to measure how spread out data are or it is used to quantify the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of data values.

6. Sample Variance
This is the average of the squared differences from the mean of a given sample.
7. Kurtosis
This refers to the degree of peakedness of a distribution.
Kinds:
a. Leptokurtic: If Kurtosis > 3
b. Mesokurtic: If Kurtosis = 3
c. Platykurtic: If Kurtosis < 3

8. Skewness
This is a measure of as/symmetry of a distribution
Kinds:
a. Negatively-skewed

b. Positively-skewed

9. Minimum/Smallest
This refers to the smallest/lowest data entry.

10. Maximum/Largest
This refers to the greatest/largest data entry.

11. Sum
This refers to the totality (quantity) of all the data entries.

12. Count
This gives the total number of data entries.
