A paragraph usually states one main idea. The sentence that contains the main idea is
called the topic sentence. The topic sentence could be found at the first sentence of the
paragraph. It is then followed by examples and details that add information and support the main
idea of the paragraph. Last of all the paragraph ends with a concluding sentence that highlights
the most important details presented in the paragraph
Example2: Nuclear Power plants are not prepared for natural disaster

Grammar Focus
Simple Present vs. Present Continuous
I eat vegetables everyday. I am eating vegetables. What are the differences between
those two sentences? The first one was in a tense called simple present and the latter is in a
present continuous form. These two tenses are used differently from each other. In this part of
the module you will be dealing with the uses of those tenses.
Present Simple
The sun is hot, my name is Albert, I study hard; these sentences are in the simple present
form. How do we use it and when do we use this tense?
Heads up
Look at these examples with the main verb be. Note that there is no auxiliary:
+ I am Korean.
- I am not Korean.
? Am I Korean?
It is Albert’s job to cook in a restaurant. He does it every day. Past, present and future.
- I am a Korean.
- The sun is hot.
- I study English.
- He doesn’t speak Spanish.
- We play table tennis every Saturday.
- We don’t get things from other people.
- Do you like painting?
Note that with the verb to be, we can also use the simple present tense for situations that
are not general. We can use the simple present tense to talk about now. Look at these
examples of the verb "to be" in the simple present tense - some of them are general, some of
them are now:
I am not fat.
Am I correct? Why are you so handsome?
Jake is not home. Lara is tall.
You are happy.

the questions that will be answered in this part of the module.
Heads up
We could this form not only in the present continuous but also to express the
future tense.
We use this form to express future actions that are sure or have already been
arranged but always make sure that the future time is included so as not to confuse others.
I am eating in a restaurant.
- (I), you, we, they (am) are not study = studying Spanish.
I am eating my lunch.
