situated within the limits of urban areas. and· thc ev iction of tenants therefrom.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Haryana in the
tw enry-fourth Year of the Republic of India as follows :-

1. Short title and extent.- ( 1) This Act ma) be called the Haryana l rban
{l ontrol of Rent and Eviction) Act, 1973.

( 2) lt shall extend to alJ urban areas in Haryana but nothmg herein
contained shall apply to any cantonment area.

((3) Nothing in this -\ct shall apply to any building the construction of
\\ hich is completed on or after the commencement of this Act for a period of
ten years from the date of its cornplction.]

"Certain provisions of the evistine law arr not conducive to harmonious
landlord-tenant relationship and also hampei rapid urban development. ln order to
remedy these defects and to entitle the tenants ot the amenities of w atcr supply
electricity and sewerage, necessity of fresh legislation has been felt. Opportunity has
also been taken to rationalise the basis of determination of fair rent and to provide for
eviction of tho-e tenants '" ho construct their own houses in the urban art. a concerned

2. Dcfinitio11,.- In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant m the


subject or context :-
