Breathless-

Running senselessly,

Instinctually,
For rationale was negated
With trauma and fear.

Overwhelmed-
Flooded with guilt,

Seeping through veins,

Nothing but maniacal laughter
And eyes filled with mirth
To accompany the incessant nightmares
That plague the troubled mind.

Screaming-
Reverberating against the walls,

Shattering every fibre of the soul;

A shrill, piercing embodiment of paranoia,
Where the constant fleeing from fears
Becomes the fear itself.

Suffocation-
The tangibility of fear now clear,

Rising as a tidal wave

And threatening to crash,
Wrapping around the soul
Until water replaced air,
Each escalating breath becoming harder to bear.

Struggling-
Tug of war between mind and soul-
Courage or cowardice,

Submission or defiance;
Mind racing,
Pulse undulating,
The colossus a looming shadow,
Patiently waiting for surrender into its void.

Resistance-
Rushing steps halted,

Determination now clear,

Taking the place of arbitrary fear,
Scornful wave now meeting its match,
As fervent eyes level with the taunting laugh.

Solace-
Skin upon water-
Victim upon fear,

Settling the wave

And clearing the tumultuous mare;
Expelled is the wave from the flooded mind,
Leaving terror and dismay in the vast behind.
