THE ENNEAGRAM SYSTEM – ANOTHER WAY TO KNOW ABOUT OUR

PERSONALITY
It is well known that there are different ways to know about personality; some tests
that help you to know more about you and your behavior, some studies that show
you how is your personality according to your preferences and likes, but there is
another way that allows you to know why you have this kind of personality based in
the nine basic personality types and that most of the people do not know.
First of all, the enneagram works for men and women in the same way. It is based
on the nine basic personality types with the own characteristics, they are the
reformer (principled, purposeful, self-controlled, and perfectionistic), the helper
(generous, demonstrative, people-pleasing, and possessive), the achiever
(adaptable, excelling, driven, and image-conscious), the individualist (expressive,
dramatic, self-absorber, and temperamental), the investigator (perceptive,
innovative, secretive, and isolated), the loyalist (engaging, responsible, anxious, and
suspicious), the enthusiast (spontaneous, versatile, acquisitive, and scattered), the
challenger (self-confident, decisive, willfull, and confrontational), and the
peacemaker (receptive, reassuring, complacent, and resigned).
Secondly, the enneagram has three centers that are separated every three types.
The instinctive center, the feeling center and the thinking center; each type is there
because of its characteristics. On the other hand, each center has an emotion that
represents the three types that are inside, but every type has the three emotions,
but one of those is stronger than others in them. The Instinctive center is represented
by the Anger or Rage, the Feeling center by the Shame, and the Thinking center by
the Fear. The manner how people show or transmit the emotions is different because
it depends on the type they are.
Thirdly, there is a study that says that each person borns with a personality type,
there are some factors that determine this type; they could be the inborn
temperament and other pre-natal factors, but also the social environment where the
mother is immersed. It is clear that our personality is developed from our childhood
even when it is determined from the womb, it is because there are some social
factors like the school, the country, the city, etc, that affects this development.
To conclude, although there are different traditional ways to analyze our kind of
personality, it exists a little known system to know more about our personality that is
very different and that is innovative. Nowadays, there are many psychologists that
are using this system working with groups of people, doing their consults and
applying their knowledge on their jobs. Definitely, it is a good way to know more
about our own personality and also for understanding other’s personality.
