Reflection/Revision Paper-Benchmark Assignment

After working with Shannon and Austin (1st grade team), changing a lesson plan,

demonstrating it in class and getting feedback from my peers, I reflected on my practices. We

worked effectively on a lesson about math using dice and understanding the symbols on the dice

and comparing those to real numbers. I think overall we did a good job with the lesson and

ensuring that all students were accounted for in the lesson. I think our presentation of the lesson

was good. It was hard to shorten it due to time constraints, but I think we were straight to the

point about what our lesson entailed and with giving an introduction on what the class would be

doing. I think our lesson was effective and for next time what I would do differently, is do a class

demo using technology and an overhead projector so everyone had an example that they could

visually see before they went off with their partners and did it on their own.

My peers taught me that showing the meaning of the lesson is important so the students

understand why they are doing something before they start. I think we could have also described

the objective of the lesson before going into it which goes along with the previous idea

mentioned, so they understand the point of the activity. I think our strengths were that we

collaborated and worked well together with this lesson plan. Improvements for next time would

to explain more about the lesson before going into it and handing out the materials. Overall, I

think it went very well and I enjoyed this assignment.
