American Sign Language (ASL) isn’t based off of normal speaking languages, it was

formed over time so that the deaf could communicate. ASL is different for every kind of

country just like spoken languages. If someone uses incorrect signing grammar, they can

be considered to have an accent. There are over 200 different types of ASL and a simple

facial expression or gesture can change the meaning of a word or phrase. The way ASL

was formed and the way it is used is important because ASL because it makes things

more fluent and easier for deaf people to comprehend.

Rouse, J., & Barrow, A. (n.d.). Sign Language Interpreters for Deaf Clients. Retrieved from

https://www.verywellhealth.com/sign-language-interpreters-for-deaf-clients-1049500

There are no records of the first interpreter, but is thought that cavemen started it when

one was deaf they would ask others to basically act out what was being said. The demand

for ASL interpreters is fairly high, although not every deaf person needs an interpreter.

Interpreters may be required in medical and legal situations. ASL interpreters are

important because the deaf would be left out in a lot of things without them.

language and learn it first and be their primary source of communication. Someone who

has hearing loss later in life may not use sign language as their primary communication

because they already speak. Only a small percentage of people actually use ASL as their

first language when deaf. Lip reading is another form of understanding for the deaf, but is

very hard. Knowing the truth about myths and misconceptions is important to ASL

because it could make it easier for the hearing to communicate with deaf people.

graduation rate. Some deaf students have access to interpreters, but still fail to meet

education requirements in past education courses. The rate of learning is previous
