THE SOCIETY AS I SEE IT: A PHOTO ESSAY

Society and culture are essential aspects of life; they affect and shape human behavior. Each
of us grows up in the context of our own societies where we acquire certain practices and
beliefs always in the context of social living. In the Chapter two of the subject, discussions
are centered on understanding the concept of society in terms of its social processes and
identity formation; roles, status, and social norms; deviancy and conformity; how society is
organized; and various theories of group formation. In order for the students to fully
understand what society is all about, it is important first to know how they see, define, and
understand it as a concept and a term of association based on their own point of view. In
this activity, students will be able to express how they view society and how do they
understand it in a creative way.
This activity aims to introduce the concept of society based on their point of view as it
would help them easily comprehend the academic and theoretical foundation of the
concept of culture and society.

Guidelines

1. General Instructions
a. Think of a concept or idea that would signify or explain society based on your
perspective.
b. Take four to five pictures that are related to your concept or would reflect your
understanding of the Philippines society. The pictures must be personally or
originally taken and should not come from other people or in the internet.
c. Put all the pictures in one powerpoint slide and create or make your own layout and
design. Arrange the pictures in a way that would best relay the message or the
concept of your work.
d. Think of a title for your output. Do not write any description or caption in every
picture. Only the title and the pictures should be on the slide.

2. Groupings
a. The class will be divided into groups with three members each. It is on the
discretion of the teacher on how groups will be formed.
b. Each member of the group must have a relevant contribution. If there are reports
with valid reasons about a student/s not helping or contributing on the activity, the
teacher has the prerogative to remove a member/s and let them do the output
separately.
3. Rubrics
a. The output will be graded based on the rubric provided by the teacher.
b. A separate rubric for peer evaluation will also be provided.

Note: See attached rubrics at the back of this paper
