Raynesh: Wow, there are ghosts and spiders everywhere!


Everyone really gets into Halloween, don’t they?

Johnny: They sure do!


To be honest I love Halloween.
I think it’s really fun.
It gives us a chance to be kids again.
It has become extremely popular with adults over the years.
It might be more popular for adults than children!
You know it’s the second most popular holiday in America behind Christmas.
Many people have house parties.
Bars and restaurants hold parties and contests for the best costumes.
Companies even decorate their offices and employees dress up for work! 

It really is a big deal for a lot of people.

Raynesh: Oh, sounds very interesting!

Adults wearing costumes?! House parties for Halloween?


Prizes and even companies partake in Halloween?
Wow, it’s really big in America!
Well, what about children?

Johnny: Oh, of course!


Kids love it!
They get lots of candy from school and trick-or-treating.
Most schools hold Halloween parties and give away prizes for the best costume.

Raynesh: What is trick-or-treating?

Johnny: Trick-or-treating is when kids dress up in their costumes and go door to door
filling up huge bags with candy.
They are always chaperoned by their parents or an adult.
They knock on the door until the owner answers.
The owners of the house sometimes wear scary costumes too.
Many people decorate their houses with all kinds of spooky stuff.
Ghosts, witches, spiders, devils …
Some people really go all out.
Lights, sound effects and whatever they can do to create a spooky experience.

Raynesh: It’s all very fascinating.

Johnny: Why don’t you come out with us Halloween night? It will be a blast!

Raynesh: Hmm… Let me think about it.
