Materials
4.1. See Table 1
4.5. The cylinder manufacturer shall obtain certificates showing the mechanical analysis and details of the
mechanical properties of the steels supplied for the construction of the pressure retaining parts. The
certificates/ reports shall be in accordance with EN 10204, Type 3.1 for shells and ends/ Type 2.2 for the
valves boss.
4.6. All materials of pressure parts in the completed cylinder can be traced to their origin.

5.5. Minimum wall thickness

For D < 100 mm: 1.1mm
For 100 mm  D  150 mm: (1.1 + 0.008 (D – 100)) mm
For D > 150 mm: (D / 250 + 0.7) mm, but not less than 1.5 mm

5.6.3. The welds of opening reinforcement shall be not less than

5.7. Valve protection

Drop test EN ISO 11117.
Impact test in accordance with EN ISO 14245 or EN ISO 15995.
6. Welding qualification

P a g e 1|6
WPS in accordance with EN ISO 15609-1.
WPQT in accordance with EN ISO 15614-1 or EN ISO 15613.
WQT in accordance with EN ISO 9606-1.
Welding personnel approved in accordance with EN ISO 14732.
6.4. Welded joints
The valve boss is welded to the cylinder by a partial penetration weld, shall be demonstrated by a prototype
fatigue test.
There shall be no more than one longitudinal joint.
Permanent back strip shall not be used for longitudinal welds.
There shall be no more than two circumferential joints, excluding the valve boss weld.
Before cylinders are closed, longitudinal welds shall be visually examined from both side in accordance with
EN ISO 17637.

The welds shall be smooth and free from overlapping, undercut or abrupt irregularity. There shall be no
cracks, notching or porosity, without concavity. Weld reinforcement (excess weld metal) thickness shall not
exceed 25% of the width of the weld, except in the weld-overun zone (interuns).
P a g e 2|6
Butt weld, including valve boss and joggled butt-welds shall be full penetration verified by macro
examination, bend and tensile testing. Joggle butt-welds may have lack of penetration at the start of weld
(with a maximum length 5mm). The minimum length of weld-overrun shall be 10 mm.
6.5. Tolerances
6.5.1. Out of roundness
The same cross section is not more than 1% (max. and min.) diameters for two-piece cylinders and 1.5% for
three-piece cylinders.
6.5.2. Straightness
Shall be not excess 0.3% of the cylinder length.
6.5.3. Verticality
Shall be vertical to within 1.5o (26 mm per meter of height).
6.7. Heat treatment
Shall maintain records of heat treatment carried out.
6.7.4 Requirement of cylinders need not be heat treated.
They are three-piece construction.
The ends are semi ellipsoidal or torispherical with: (H - b) / D  0.26 and h  8b
Cylinders made from fine grain steel with maximum grain size of 8.
7. Tests and examinations

7.4. Tensile test
7.5. Bend test
7.6. Burst test under hydraulic pressure
The pressure for burst test shall not be less than 2.25 times the calculation pressure and at least 50 bars.
7.6.2. Requirement (Acceptable parameter)
7.7. Pressure test
The minimum test pressure shall not be less than calculation pressure.
