Lesson title: A funny weather forecast

LESSON AIMS
 To develop students’ speaking, writing and listening skills;
 To use the grammar problem learnt previously in new, life-like situations;
SPECIFIC COMPETENCES
By the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
Make the difference between different types of weather;
Identify the correct patterns used when presenting the weather forecast;
Extract specific information from pictures/ tables/ etc.;
Work in groups to write and present a weather forecast.

STAGES OF THE LESSON

ACTIVITY 1: LEAD IN
AIM: to create a relaxed and motivated climate and to announce the title and aims of the
lesson
Interaction: T-Ss
Timing: 5 minutes
Procedure: The teacher checks who is missing then asks students some introductory questions:
What was the weather like yesterday/last week?
What was the weather today?
What type of weather do you like best?
What’s your favourite season? Why?
Then she tells the students that they are going to talk about weather today.

ACTIVITY 2: WEATHER MATCHING CHAMPIONSHIP


Aim: to match weather symbols to the correct expressions
Interaction: S-S
Timing: 7 minutes
Procedure: The teacher divides students in two groups and gives them cards with weather words
and symbols. Then she explains them that this is a contest and the fastest team will win. They
have to go to the blackboard one by one, make pairs of cards and put them in the correct season
bubble. Every student should go to the whiteboard at least once.

ACTIVITY 3: PIN THE … WEATHER ON THE MAP!


Aims: to talk about different types of weather throughout the globe
Interaction: S – S, T-Ss
Timing: 7 minutes.

Procedure: The teacher announces that the next activity is a game and that the students, wearing
blindfolds, have to go to the map, pin a sign on it and then talk about the type of weather in that
specific region using the sentence: In...(Name of the country) is sunny/ windy/ snowy/ etc.

ACTIVITY 4: WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE IN LONDON?


Aims: to extract and share specific information
Interaction: S –S, T-Ss
Timing: 7 minutes.

Procedure: the teacher gives students who are sitting in pairs two maps of UK. They have to
find out the missing weather signs on their maps by asking questions to their partner. The model
question is “What’s the weather like/ the temperature in …?”

ACTIVITY 5: WEATHER FORECAST

Aim: to write and present weather forecast in front of the class

Interaction: S-S

Timing: 15 minutes

Procedure: After watching the weather forecast the students working in groups have to come up
with their own weather forecast for UK each group presenting a different day of the week. They
have on their desks flipchart sheets with UK’s map and different weather signs. For the
presentation in front of the class the students can use different clothing objects or accessories to
make the forecast funnier.

HOMEWORK: 5 MINUTES
As homework the students will have to write their own weather forecast for different
countries or regions on the map.
At the end of the lesson the teacher evaluates Ss’ activity.
