Profile
The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was established in 1964, as an autonomous non-profit society by
the initiative of Mr SS Khera, ICS (the then Cabinet Secretary, Government of India) and Dr DS Reddy (the
then Vice Chancellor, Osmania University) with the idea of a research institution that would undertake
a systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation of policies pertaining to Public
Enterprises. Dr VV Ramanadham, the then Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, Osmania
University, with the active support and guidance provided by Dr DS Reddy, translated Mr Khera’s concept
into a reality.
It is recognized as ‘Centre of Excellence’ in social science research by Indian Council of Social Science
Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 1976.
Today, IPE proudly stands as a state-of-the-art research and education Institute with its new campus
being successfully operational at Shamirpet, Hyderabad.
In the span of five decades, IPE has developed from a research and training organization to an
internationally regarded educational institution with the launch of a two-year full time Post Graduate
Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), in the year 1995, recognized as equivalent to MBA by the
Association of Indian Universities (AIU), to provide future leaders and professional managers. The
Institute built a diverse portfolio of long-term programs as per the industry requirement and introduced
two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Retail and Marketing (PGDM-RM) in 2007,
Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Banking, Insurance and Financial Services (PGDM-BIF) in 2008,
Post Graduate Diploma in Management – International Business (PGDM-IB) in 2009, Executive PGDM in
2009 and Post Graduate Diploma in Management – HRM in 2011, all recognized by AICTE.

How the Journey Began

With the experience gained in Research, Consultancy and
Training activities and taking into consideration the ever-
increasing need for professionally trained personnel by
the industry, IPE started MBA (PE), a part-time evening
program, in 1981-82 is being conducted at IPE O.U Campus.
The program, affiliated to the Osmania University and
approved by the All India Council for Technical Education
(AICTE), is tailored to meet the specific needs of practicing
managers. The selection of candidates is through the
Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) of the Government
of Telangana.
Since its inception more than 1,000 executives have
pursued the MBA (PE) program. With this success, in 1995
the Institute started a two-year full-time Post Graduate
Diploma in Management (PGDM), recognized as equivalent
to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities, to provide
skilled human resources to meet the growing requirements
of the Industry.
Keeping in view the changing varied requirements of the
Industry, the Institute offers Six courses viz., PGDM, PGDM-
RM, PGDM-BIF, PGDM-IB, PGDM-HRM & Ex-PGDM. All these
courses are approved by AICTE and four of these courses
received MBA equivalence from Association of Indian
Universities. Our Institute received SAQS accreditation also
recently. The selection of candidates for all these courses is
through CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA, CMAT & GMAT.
However, Institute takes care to give due weightage to
academic background and GDPI Process in addition to
the test score obtained. Since inception more than 2,000
students have graduated from IPE and are placed in reputed
organizations.

Library and Documentation Centre
A Treasure trove of Learning Resources
The Institute’s library has a rich collection of 52,000
documents (including books, journals and pamphlets)
on topics such as management, public enterprises, IT,
economics, psychology, biographies, annual reports of
central / state-level public enterprises, project reports
submitted by students / faculty / research scholars, etc. It
has a valuable collection of over 3,500 publications / theses,
and subscribes to over 300 National / International
journals annually. It works in close collaboration with
libraries of several universities, ISB, ASCI, CESS, State Bank
Staff College, the English & Foreign Languages University,
etc. Benchmarking itself with global B-Schools, the library
supplements the course content of IPE’s management
education programs and automatically purchases all books
that are recommended reading. The IPE library receives
reports and working papers of institutions such as World
Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Labour
Organization – Asian Regional Team for Employment

Development, Indian Institutes of Management, Madras

Startupedia 2017 marks the fourth season of Startupedia,
Tamil Nadu India

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme offered
by the Institute of Public Enterprise is a two-year programme and was
launched in 1995. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical
Education and the Association of Indian Universities. Courses offered at
the programme elevate the understanding and sharpen the skills of the
students in the area of decision making, leadership, change management,
consumer and market behavior and entrepreneurial management. The
curriculum is industry relevant and the elements of experienced faculty,
state of the art infrastructure and teaching methodology blend to propel the
PGDM zeal to excel amongst the students. In the second year of the programme
students choose two electives from the areas of Finance, Marketing, Human
Resource Management, Operations Management and Systems.
The programme focuses on the development of key skills and capabilities

Launched in 2007, the Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Retail
Marketing (PGDM-RM), is two-year full-time programme approved by
the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human
Resource Development (HRD), Government of India and accredited by
the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to MBA. It
is a two-year full-time career oriented program which is designed by
industry and academic experts to enable and energize students with
managerial skills, marketing skills and retail management skills to close
the gap between theory and practice.
The programme offers triple specializations, viz., Place Marketing
(Marketing Management), Space Marketing (Digital and Social Media
Marketing) and one among the other functional areas like Finance,
Operations, Human Resource Management and Systems.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Banking, Insurance and Financial
Services (PGDM-BIF), started in 2008, is a two-year full-time programme
approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and
National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It is also considered as equivalent
to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The programme is
designed to groom future managers who can successfully handle the complex
corporate environment. In the changing global scenario, innovation is a major
driving force for achieving competitive advantage through a creation of new
PGDM-BIF business opportunities. To meet this challenge, there is a huge requirement of
trained banking and financial professionals in the country. This programme
aims to churn out skilled and talented finance and management professionals
to suit the requirements of the corporate sector in general and BFSI sector in

PGDM-IB is a management program aimed at imparting students’
knowledge of not only a standard MBA level program but also additional
knowledge of International Business related subjects / courses covering
