How does it work?

Since I am a junior this year, I have to start thinking about what college I want to go to, and

what I want my career path to be. I have been thinking and at first I wanted to become a pediatric

nurse, but then got to thinking and I really can’t stand blood so that is probably not a good career

for me. I also was thinking about being a counselor, which I would love to do, but I started to

think about being a ABA, Applied Behavior Analysis Therapist, which is what I do in the

communication class to help the students but I would do it everyday to help different kids. I

started to think how exactly does this help the brain and kids who need it, which lead me to my

research question. How does Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, help the brain and

communication skills that may not be known to some people, and more importantly help kids

with autism?

Some people may even be wondering what is ABA therapy, by definition it is a system of

autism treatment based on behaviorist theories which, simply put, state that desired behaviors

can be taught through a system of rewards and consequences. This therapy has proven over and

over that it works, and is different for each individual. It is unique to every person, it is never the

same because some people need help more in other areas than others, very similar to counseling.

This essay will answer many questions on how effective and how well this therapy works and the

studies shown behind it.

1 out of every 20 people are diagnosed with autism, and there's no way to stop it, it's

something that is not genetically transferred but happen with the chromosomes. This can't be

cured either but kids can practice to get better at coping with the amazing abilities they have.

This is wear ABA therapy comes in, it helps kids with autism practice social skills.
