Initial Teaching Statement

People always think a role of a teacher is easy since they get the summers off, they’re off

by three, and they get to work with kids. People only know the role of teachers from what they

experience themselves. This is why we need great teachers in this world. Teachers go far beyond

just being in the classroom. They are constructing students mind and creating a love for learning

environment. As a classroom teacher, I would like to help my students learn important

educational skills, expand their thinking, and improve their intellect. I will be able to achieve this

goal with my future students by connecting with students. Teacher student relationships is key in

a successful classroom. It allows the teacher to create content that students can understand

thoroughly when it is relatable to them.

I believe being able to develop relationships with students is a key characteristic to

becoming a high quality, transformative teacher. When there are relationships built, there is more

connectivity with students, they are able to understand and relate to the content. Even the teacher

will be able to understand and make the learning environment equitable for every student, not

just the students who get the content being taught. This allows the students to become more

engaged and encourages them to learn more. As a teacher, I hope I get to change students’ lives

through education. I want to be that teacher the teacher that inspires her students to want to learn,

value education, and know that they all deserve an opportunity to be successful in life.

In the classroom, I am going to be the hands-on type of teacher. As a visual learner,

myself, I loved when teachers created lessons that allowed students to learn through experience.

That sort of teaching style is the most influential. Although, as a teacher, I need to consider

everyone’s learning styles. I will create content that best fits the class as a whole. Those who
need an extra push, will get it. As a member of a school, I am going to be actively engaged to

help improve the environment in every way possible. It could be fundraising for school funds or

simply hosting an after-school club for students. I am also going to be that teacher that has

students come back to visit once they move on to the next grade level. It is just as important to

keep the relationships you build with your students at it is to make them. In the community, I am

going to be that well-known teacher that every parent wants their child to have. It will be because

I am not only passionate about my career but everyone around me. Teachers influence people

outside of school and in the community. If I can positively change my community for the better,

I will do it. The same goes for the community on a larger scale. At the state, nation, and

international community I want to be a part of the statistics that prove we have quality education.

The only way I can achieve my vision as an educator is by having high quality skills. As

teacher one needs to be patient, respectful, and needs to consider all students. I would need to be

a people person and show passion about what means the most to me. Most importantly I will be

an equitable teacher. I will make the playing field level for every single student of mine to ensure

they all get the same opportunity.

As a teacher who considers all her students, I will make sure my students aware of

everyone’s different cultural backgrounds. They will understand that people are different. I will

do my best to ensure that those who speak multiple languages, understand the content being

given. If those students need additional support, I will be that teacher who is there to give it to

them. As to those students who have a disability. I will make sure to be aware of the

disadvantage they may have as well as fully understand their condition. I will also make sure

those students are getting the proper care in order to be successful in my classroom.
These characteristics will not only make me but anyone who wants to pursue a career in

teaching a transformative teacher. The most important characteristics are building relationships

with your students and creating an equitable learning environment. When my students leave my

classroom, they will have come to love learning, value their education, and self-worth no matter

where they come from.
