Narrative Essay

On my first year college stay here in Far Eastern University, I did not expect to have a
Rizal subject because it is not included in my senior high years. At first, I am very happy that
I will be taking this subject because it was all about Rizal’s life, works and writings. I am so
excited what will be going to do in this subject and how can I take it with deep understandings
and values. I think this subject can help me to be familiarized with our National Hero, Jose
Rizal with his journey during the Spanish Colonization here in our country. In addition, this
subject will give me a guide to know the Philippines situation in the time of Spanish Period.
Then, it was a way to enhance my intellectuality about his novels and writings. I think this was
the subject that will engage me to be more focus about the happenings in the time of Rizal. It
was maybe a new subject for me but I think it is really empowering to learn about the National
Heroes journey and even their lives but have more focus to Rizal. I want to know if his novels
have still an impact to the modern society today because in this subject I will learn the
importance of his two most known article which is Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
Also, this subject will be a big help for me in the future because this can help me in my future
career which is to be an educator. Knowing this subject that I will going to take for the first
semester makes me so grateful because I wanted to know more about Jose Rizal and the life he
was in during his living years in the Philippines.

On the first week of classes, we are formally ask to share our information with the class
to get to know more each other because we are in our freshmen year. We have our professor
namely Dr. Palenzuela ask it for the activity on the first day of classes and the first meeting of
Rizal’s subject. After that she discussed about the set of schedules for the midterms. We talk
about Rizal’s Law which is an act for the Universities, Colleges, and any schools are required
to have or include Rizal on the curriculum. First thing that I have learn from her is there are
three proponents of the Law. They were Ramon Magsaysay which is the signer of it, the author
which is Claro M. Recto and it was sponsored by Jose P. Laurel. After discussing about the
Rizal’s law we made an activity which is a map organizer according on what we have learned
by asking you. To add, Rizal’s we were done discussing also discussed about his families and
sister. There were hand outs that are given by our Professor and we are going to discuss all that
within.the day and do activated the day after that if we have listed on the schedule. On our first
quiz I got a very low score which makes me disappointed because I forgot all the things that
are written on the article but eventually I made an accomplishment to all the quiz because I
have strongly focus on the lesson. We have many activities on the midterms such as an output
within an activity paper. First I think is the map organizer and the drawing of Rizal’s as a
romantic person. We also discussed about Rizal’s literary messages works and essay. We also
watch a movie titled Jose Rizal 1998, it was film about many years ago. It was about Rizal’s
life. On the finals week, we have film showing about historical heroes which is Heneral Luna
and I have enjoyed watching it. We also made different group activities that enhance our
different skills as a students. First thing was the tableau , the collage and the architecture within
a popsicle sticks. I have enjoyed helping my groupmates in working for this activity. We also
discussed all the schedules that will be having or we are making during the finals. In all the
activity of this subject, I always tend to fulfil that happiness because I am learning about the
history of our country and the life of our national hero. For our final requirements we are ask
to make an interpretative dance about a specific topic with connections with Rizal. When I first
know this I am very shocked because I don’t have any idea how to interpret this subject with a
dance but eventually I know that it can be easily done with the group’s unity and commitment
for the project. I think all these things are all the activities we have from the start. I have enjoyed
all of the things that we have done in my Rizal subject.

To conclude, all the things that we have done for Rizal’s subject are really fun and
engaging because we all know that Rizal as subject should be taken with serious approach.
Although, Rizal is our subject we also make that we experiencing the learnings with amount
of happiness in the subject. Also I am so grateful with my professor who have an unending
patience with us because of our attitudes and contribution to the class discussion. Therefore,
this subject implies that we need to know Rizal’s value to the society even now in the modern
generation. Then it is make to honour him with his courage to fight for the Philippines freedom
against Spain. All of his work should be remembered as well as his identity to represents our
country. This subject also teach me how to be good at memorizing and remembering his
journey while he was living. His family, education attainment and how he wrote those two
novels that signifies as a rebel for Spain’s colonality. Lastly this subject taught me how to
socialize with my other classmates and to respect their ideas to all the activities that given to
us. Also, it taught me how to get to know more about Rizal’s family and Rizal’s love story
which I have the most interest topic while studying the subject. All the things that I have learned
and done in learning the subject is I can used when I become an educator someday.

For me, my recommendations is that every students should study these curriculum even
though that there were international students in that school because I that it was there job to
know more deeply how our Philippines culture in the hand of Spanish regime and how Jose
Rizal fight for the Filipinos freedom without the use of blood. In the subject, I recommend that
we should have conduct more activities so that we are working as a team again and make our
peers with each of one to be satisfy. In addition, I would like to say that all of the students
should memorize Rizal’s writing and articles because it can help them as they going to be
familiarized with Rizal’s life. Lastly, I would like to recommend that this subject should have
more engaging activities like the exciting one that we din on the finals for example the tableau
we made and portray the two novels of Jose Rizal which used in fighting the Spanish
harassment on the Filipino’s during the Spanish era. Rizal’s subject can help others to be more
familiarized on our national hero and can also have information about our history which can
be very beneficial when other international students came from our country. It would be an
advantage because learning our history would never be that easy. It includes an exert of efforts
so that you have a better understanding in the subject requirements to be passed.
