Network Components in Lab:
 Ethernet HUB
 Switches
 RJ45 Connectors
 CAT 6 Ethernet Cables
 Computers

Specifiations Of the Lab Components:

 Switch Type : LAN Switch and UnManaged Network Switch
LAN Switch or Active Hub
Local area network or known as LAN switches and others called it active hubs are
devices used to connect points on a company's internal LAN. It is also known as a
data switch or an Ethernet switch. It blocks the overlap of data packets running
through a network by the economical allocation of bandwidth. Bandwidth refers
to the amount of data to be carried from one point to another given a period of
time. The active hub delivers the transmitted data packet before directing it to its
planned receiver. A LAN switch or an active hub reduces network congestion or
bottlenecks by distributing a package of data only to its intended recipient. An
active hub gives priority to the package of data and sends data of the highest
priority before it sends low-priority packets.
Unmanaged Network Switches
Unmanaged network switches are frequently used in home networks and small
companies and businesses. It permits devices on the network to connect with
each other, such as computer to computer or printer to computer in one location.
An unmanaged switch does not necessarily need to be configured or watched.
They are simple and easy to set up and needs only small cable connections. The
switch's aids over a hub are full bandwidth to eachport, rather than destroying all
the data over all the ports like a hub, and dealing with collisions and network
traffics.
 No of Ports:
Cisco SG-3000 28 - 28 ports
Digisol DG-FS1024D - 24 ports
D-Link DES-1024D - 24 ports
 Datarate:
100 Mbps
 Ethernet Cable Category:
CAT 6 : Category 6 cable, commonly referred to as Cat 6, is a standardized twisted
pair cable for Ethernet and other network physical layers that is backward
compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards.
Compared with Cat 5 and Cat 5e, Cat 6 features more stringent specifications
for crosstalk and system noise. The cable standard also specifies performance of
up to 250 MHz compared to 100 MHz for Cat 5 and Cat 5e.[1]
Whereas Category 6 cable has a reduced maximum length of 55 meters when
used for 10GBASE-T, Category 6A cable (or Augmented Category 6) is
characterized to 500 MHz and has improved alien crosstalk characteristics,
allowing 10GBASE-T to be run for the same 100 meter maximum distance as
previous Ethernet variants.
 Topology:
Tree Topology
In computer networks, a tree topology is also known as a star bus topology. It
incorporates elements of both a bus topology and a star topology. Below is an
example network diagram of a tree topology, in which the central nodes of two
star networks are connected to one another.

In the picture above, if the main cable or trunk between each of the two star
topology networks were to fail, those networks would be unable to communicate
with each other. However, computers on the same star topology would still be
able to communicate.

Comparison with Already existing components:

Switches:
Cisco SG-3000 28 - 28 ports
Digisol DG-FS1024D - 24 ports Vs OmniSwitch 6350 series
D-Link DES-1024D - 24 ports
OmniSwitch 6350 series
The Current generation of switches has faster switch Supports 2x
Bandwidth, it provides 10, 24 or 48 ports of 10/100/1000 Gbps Ethernet
connectivity, with or without a Power over Ethernet plus (PoE+) capability
that can support up to 30 watts per port.
Ethernet Cable:
CAT 6 Vs CAT 7
Cat7 can also support 10 Gbps, but laboratory testing has successfully shown its
ability to transmit up to 40 Gb at 50 meters and even 100 Gb at 15 meters. The
newer “Class F” cabling can support frequencies of up to 600 Mhz. That said,
Cat7 has not been approved as a cable standard for telecommunications.

Cat7 offers extensive shielding to reduce signal attenuation and is relatively stiff
in comparison to previous generations of cabling. Both individual pairs are
shielded, with an additional layer of shielding over the entire cable. The shielding
needs to be grounded and Cat7 also requires special GigaGate45 (GG45)
connectors to take full advantage of higher performance features.

All in all, Cat6a can perform just about the same as Cat7 but at a lower price
point. Most of our AV and IP surveillance customers opt for Cat6a STP or Cat6a
FTP. Both offer shielding from alien crosstalk and interference around high
voltage lines.

Cat7 is suited for use in datacenters and large enterprise networks.

Note: 600Mhz/10Gbps/100m (40Gbps at 50m/100Gbps at 15m).

Inference: The Current Setup is to be obelete in the coming years it is

advisable to upgrade the existing switches to the versions available in
market and to also implement the CAT 7 cabling in the Lab.
