GENERAL CLASS POLICIES

Attendance

Attendance is required and will be checked. A student who is absent for more than 6 times will be given a grade of 5.0
if he or she does not drop the course. Note: The deadline for dropping subjects is on November 14 (Tue), 2017.

Course Requirements

Students will be evaluated on the basis of class participation, long exams and a final exam.

 Class Participation (CP). Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions. Class participation
includes attendance, recitation, homework, problem sets, quizzes, and other class activities.
 Long Exam (LE). There will be THREE long exams. Students are required to submit answer sheets at least a day
before the exam. Note: Schedule of exams will be announced at least 2 weeks before the exam. Queries on
grading of exam will be entertained for a period of one week after the exam result has been returned.
 Final Exam (FE). A student is exempted from taking the Final Exam if the pre-final grade is at least 65%
(equivalent to 2.50), and all long exams have passing grades.

Learning Sources
Lecture notes shall be provided in the form of “pdf” slides/handouts and writings on the board. Below are suggested
reference materials.
