a.3 Checking of Attendance “Yes Mam.”

“Are all of you are present?”
Alright very good.

B. Review of the Previous Lesson

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Okey class who can remember our topic yesterday?” “Our topic yesterday is all about Nervous System.”
“Yes Marwille.”
“What can you say about the Nervous System.” “The nervous system has three main functions: To collect
sensory input from the body and external environment.
“Very Good.” To process and interpret the sensory input. To respond
appropriately to the sensory input.”

C. Motivation
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Okey before we start our new topic

Have you eaten your breakfast? “Yes Mam.”

Can somebody share what is his/her breakfast this

morning?
(the student answer)
“Yes, Jennifer.!

Okey class are you not wondering why I am asking about “No Mam.!
your breakfast?
GORDON COLLEGE
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, ARTS & SCIENCES
OLONGAPO CITY

Is your breakfast a good one. ? How do you know? “Yes Mam.

At this point in time, I will let you watch a video clip.

Afterwards, you are going to group yourselves into five.
Each group will choose a representative.

(after watching)

“Okey Class count to five and group yourselves. Pick your “Okey, Mam.”
leader.

Activity

(We will be using a digestive system model which is made

up of different color if clay placed in an illustration board.
The model will be placed in the board. The "Pick me a
word activity" will start with letting the pupils pick a word
from the box and locate the organ indicated. After
pasting the organ Two questions will be posted on the
board.)

Are you aware of the organs you have pasted? “Yes Mam.

What do you think will happen if one of the organs of the “No Mam.
digestive system fails to perform its functions?

D. LESSON PROPER
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Okay class.
Don’t return to your seats just yet. Let’s do another (5 Students approaches in front)
activity. Here are 5 envelopes. Choose one representative
of your group and proceed in front. Choose one envelope. (Students return to their groups with own envelopes)
Then proceed to your respective groups.

Now, open your envelopes and identify the specific image

and discuss its function in 3minutes. Okay, time is up! (Student discussion) They are parts of the digestive
What have you noticed with the pictures? Yes. You have system.
learned the following parts in your previous year.

Now will discuss the Digestive process in detail.

So with that what is the function of the digestive system? The system responsible for food after we eat is Digestive
System.”
Yes. The digestive system Is responsible for breakdown
and absorption of nutrients from food thereby bringing
energy for the body. So now, One representative per
group will discuss their collaboration in front.

Who among you have the mouth image? We have it!

Okay! Be the first to discuss your work.

The mouth offers an entry of food into the body. It is also
where the mechanical breakdown begins.

Good job!

Yes!

The mouth breaks down food into bits to facilitate

transfer thru the esophagus to the stomach.

This is a process called mastication. It also serves as the

initial stage of digestion with the enzyme converting
carbohydrates. What is that enzyme? Salivary amylase!

And now let’s follow the food as it passes through the

digestive system. From the mouth, food passes through
the? What connects the mouth and stomach? Esophagus!
Yes. And who have the esophagus? Can you share your
ideas? The esophagus transact food from the mouth to the
stomach by a movement.

That’s correct! So what do we call that rhythmic Peristalsis!

movement?

That’s right. So through peristalsis, the food,or now

called chyme, goes through the cardiac sphincter, a ring-
shaped muscle where food enters from esophagus to
stomach that prevents food reflux. The food then is
transported to the stomach.

So again, what is that muscle that prevent reflux? The cardiac sphincter!

Correct. Now, which group now hold the stomach? Can The stomach further forms the food into smaller portions
you discuss it in front? and contains HCl that aids digestion and destroys the
bacteria present in the ingested food. It also has pepsin
the breaks-down protein into smaller forms.

Yes that’s correct. Now, where does the food go after Small intestines!
passing the stomach?

Now who among you the small intestine picture? Please The small intestine is where pancreatic juices aids in
go in front and discuss. digestion of protein, carbohydrates and fats. It is also the
longest part of the digestive system.
Yes, that’s correct. You may return to your seat.
Furthurmore in the small intestine, bile acts on the food.
Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder.
It break down fats into smaller droplets.

What organ produces bile? Liver!

How about the one that stores bile? Gallbladder!

That’s correct!

Small intestines the remains of the digestion and The large intestine is composed by the ascending,
absorption are now enters the large intestine who transverse and descending colon, the anus and rectum. It
happens to be in the last group. is also where the appendix is. It also contains the feces
ready for excretion.
GORDON COLLEGE
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, ARTS & SCIENCES
OLONGAPO CITY

Yes, that true. You may now return to your seat. The
large intestine is composed by the ascending, transverse
and descending colon, the appendix, anus and rectum. It
is also where absorption of water occurs. The remains
after water has been absorbed are now called STOOL or
FECES then it will be stored in the rectum then excrete to
the anus.

The large intestine is composed by the ascending,

transverse and descending colon, the anus and rectum. It
is also where the appendix is. It also contains the feces
ready for excretion.

So in summary, the digestive system is composed of? The mouth, esophagus, stomach, large and small
intestines!
All are which function to do what? They are responsible for breakdown and absorption of
nutrients from food thereby bringing energy for the
Very good! body.

IV. SYNTHESIS

Okay class, let’s have a recap on what we have

Discussed today.

What did we discuss?

Yes. What else? Ma’am we discussed the organs that composes the human
digestive system.

What else? Ma’am we also discussed the process of digestion.

Very good. Ma’am we also tackled about mechanical digestion.

So you really understand our topic for today! Yes, Mam.

“Let’s have a short quiz.” Okey, Mam.

Get a ½ sheet of paper. (the student get a ½ sheet of paper for the quiz).
