Project Title The Entire History of Me

Section 1: Rationale (approx. 100 words)

When I initially started the course, I was heavily interested in drawing in an
illustrative style, overtime; I progressed in to using more traditional art
techniques such as sfumato and impasto. I was heavily inspired by the works
of Bacon, Auerbach and Richter. After we did the ‘artist specimen container’
project, I looked more into modern art and installation pieces. The work of
Marc Quinn and Yayoi Kusama were ones that really inspired me.

Prior to college I was unaware of the endless possibilities of modern art.

When at secondary school I was only ever taught about historical art
movements such as cubism and renaissance, work that I appreciate and
understand the significance of, but it does not massively interest or inspire
me. So being shown such work has pushed me more towards photography
and installation pieces.
Section 2 : Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
Throughout the course of my project I intend to explore through the medium
of photography the high and low points of my life and discuss the impacts
they have had on me and my life up to present day.

I believe that not only will this project be easy for me to come up with creative
and aesthetically pleasing photoshoots, but it will also be therapeutic for me
to discuss in a healthy outlet the negative issues I have in my life. I know that
throughout the project I will uncover more issues with myself and I intend to
find a way to channel those issues through the medium of photography.

I intend to use a variety of different photography techniques and processes

such as : 35mm colour film, shutter speed, studio photography , short and
long lighting, Pinhole photography, Rembrandt lighting and 35mm black and
white film. Furthermore, I plan on using different editing techniques to ensure
my photography is looking as crisp and flawless as it can be. I would also
want to experiment with transfer techniques to explore a more creative way of
displaying my photography.

I plan to draw inspiration from different artists of all different mediums, for
example, Tracey Emin is someone I take a lot of inspiration from, for the
reason that her work is inspired by her life events, again both positive and
negative. Nan Goldin is also someone who has heavily inspired my work,
documentary photography is something I plan to explore in my work as it is a
way to accurately document my life. Goldin uses film photography, which is
something I wish to do, however, I also plan on using more modern
techniques of photography as it allows me to explore further methods of
photography and also how to adapt old photography methods in to modern
photography methods.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate my work, I plan on using a blog in order to keep up with
evaluation and reflection in an easier- to- access format. I think this is a more
effective method to evaluate work and also makes it more accessible for
peers to evaluate my work and give me feedback. At the end of the project, I
intend to evaluate my work by doing a spoken presentation which will be
video recorded and most likely uploaded on to my blog.
