SENIOR KIDS CAMP

I. Overview of the Senior Kids Camps

A. Description

The Senior Kids Camp is the formal entry point for kids ages 9 to 12 years old to be members of the CFC Kids for
Christ (KFC) ministry. This is a two-day live-in camp usually conducted during summer and/or school break. It is an experience
where the kids can have fun, and at the same time hear and see the Word of God being proclaimed by the YFC Youth for Christ
(YFC) servants in ways that they can appreciate.

It is in this camp where the "Senior Kids" experience God proclaimed by their YFC brothers and sisters who were just
like them a few years ago, and who they can now look up to as models.

In this camp, they can make friends as they play games, share experiences, and entertain one another in a wholesome
Christian environment. Here, they can discover and be encouraged to develop their gifts and potential for leadership as they are
exposed to their peers and to the youth who are actively serving them as speakers, facilitators, games coordinators, and others.

B. Goals

The objectives of this Camp are as follows:

1. To introduce Jesus to the kids, making them realize that God has a special place for them in His heart, and that He
loves them very much even if they are still very young.
2. To enable the kids to respond to God's love through a healthy and fun environment of prayers, songs, activities and
fellowship among peers and friends.
3. To give them a sense of identity as member of CFC Kids for Christ where they can share and expect Christian love,
unity, and support from one another.
4. To expose them to their older brothers and sisters in the YFC, joyfully using their talents to serve them, inspiring them
to look forward to joining CFC Youth for Christ when they grow older.

II. Planning for the Senior Kids Camp

A. Participants to the Senior Kids Camp

The camp is open to kids ages 9 to 12 years old. Ideally, the maximum number of participants is 50. It is up to the
discretion of the coordinator, after considering the facilities and the number of youth facilitators available, to decide whether to
add to this number.

A. Role of the Parents in the Senior Kids Camp

The parents are vital in sustaining the spiritual growth of their kids during and after the camp. Therefore the parents
(both) are required to attend an orientation meeting scheduled prior to the camp. Here, they will be oriented by the KFC
coordinator about the activities and let them fill up the information sheets and waiver forms needed, (see Addendum)

B. The Service Team

The service team for the Senior Kids Camp must be composed of YFC members, Couple Coordinators and other CFC
members or parents of the participants.

The YFC Service Team is crucial to the success of the camp. Young children are very impressionable, and learn more
from what their elders do than from what they say. It is therefore important that good role models be used to serve the
children. There should be at least 10 YFC representatives from whom the following key position shall be delegated:

 1 facilitator for every 4 - 7 kids (boys to boys, girls to girls)

 Music ministry
 Team leader/s (max. of 2 - 1 boy & 1 girl)
 4 speakers
 4 sharers
 Camp servants
 Documentation Team

Two CFC couple coordinators will oversee the whole camp: 1 Service Team Head and 1 Assistant Service Team Head.
Other couple coordinators must be assigned to the registration team.
Please note that the team composition, as suggested, may not be ideal or adequate to be able to accomplish and
achieve targeted goals of the camp, considering the needs for kids' safety, security and supervision. Additional volunteer
parents and/or YFC representatives therefore, are expected to gladly assist in the administrative functions, but are willing to be
on live-out status for purposes of cost savings.

B. Suggested Venue and Facilities

The campsite must have a wide and clean environment where children can play and walk around safely and a place
where bonfire can be done. It must have separate bedrooms for boys and girls and can accommodate the participants and
service team. It should have adequate supply of water and electricity and clean toilet and bathroom
facilities. The venue must also have canteen/mess room, recreational facilities and a means of communication must also be
available.

1. Other logistical requirements

- Sound system - Camera
- Microphones - ID for the participants and
- Whistle/bell - ID for the service team
- OHP/LCD and computer - Bond Papers
- Registration materials - Guitars
- Pentel Pens - Song sheets

The schedules written in this manual are guides for the Senior Camp Service Team. If circumstances call for a different
schedule, the team should be flexible enough to follow where the Holy Spirit leads.
For the Play Break on Day 1, be sure to provide alternative activities for children who will not be able to participate on
the major activity. For example, for children who were not allowed by parents to swim, they can have a cooking activity or art
activity, etc. You may also ask the children to write something about the Senior Kids Camp. Example, “What is the most
memorable thing that happened to me during the Kids Camp?” This may be done before the mass. The time for dedication of
KFC and the distribution of KFC lD and Commitment cards may be done within the mass. Note that it is only in the Senior Kids
Camp that the child will be given a commitment card, as this is not given out to the participants of the Junior Kids Day for kids
ages 4 to 8 years old (See separate manual for Junior Kids Day.)

IV. Team Leader's Guide

A. The Team Leader and the Senior Kids Camp

Goals of the Kids Camp (as mentioned earlier)

1. To introduce Jesus to the kids, making them realize that God has a special place for them in His heart, and that He
loves them very much even if they are still very young.
2. To enable the kids to respond to God's love through healthy and fun environment of prayers, songs, activities and
fellowship among peers and friends.
3. To give them a sense of identity as members of CFC Kids for Christ where they can share and expect Christian love,
unity, and support from one mother.
4. To expose them to their older brothers and sisters in YFC, joyfully using their talents to serve them, inspiring them to
look forward to joining the CFC Youth for Christ when they grow older.

These goals are achieved through the 4 F's

1. Fun - The camp contains activities which children find exciting and enjoyable (games, songs, bonfire, play time, etc.)
2. Friendship - The camp is an opportunity to build strong friendships with one another. (The team is encouraged to mingle
with the kids.)
3. Faith - All activities are geared towards their relationship with God.
4. Freedom- Being an overnight activity, the kids are given the opportunity to learn to take responsibility for their things and
themselves with the supervision of the KFC Couple Coordinators and other parents.

B. Attitude of a Team Leader

1. The team leader strives to be a person of vision. He sees that the Kids Camp is not an end in itself but rather the beginning
of a process of growth.
2. The team leader is flexible. He is open to changes/modifications of any activity/game if the children are not receptive towards
it.
3. The team leader is alert. He watches the children for clues. (Children get discouraged when the learning game seems too
difficult. Children get restless and fidgety if the games are too easy.)
4. The team leader strives for clarity.

a. He allows others to see what he sees. He makes sure that his female partner, couple coordinator, and team have
the same understanding as he does about circumstances in the camp.
b. He finds ways to make the participants relate to the talks and sharing. These are done through jokes, anecdotes,
examples in current movie/t.v./music trends and illustrates these in terms familiar to the participants.
5. The team leader strives to have a heart for God and His people.
a. He listens to the Lord: prepares spiritually before the camp; continues to Consult and intercede to the Lord
throughout the camp.
b. He has a feel for the people: mingles and relates with the team; mingles and relates with the participants.
c. He loves the people he serves.

C. Roles and Responsibilities of a Team Leader

1. Each Kids Camp has two team leaders; one for the boys and one for the girls.
a. The male team leader leads the sessions: leads prayers, worship; introduces speakers and sharers; wraps up,
summarizes, emphasizes points for clarity; sits in front; listening to each talk.
b. The female team leader is there to respond to the needs of the girls and provide input in planning and conducting
the camp.
c. Both team leaders work in consultation with each other to unify and provide focus for the team.
d. They should both be prepared to give any of the four talks.
e. They make sure that the camp schedule is followed.
2. Give input in camp decisions to the couple coordinator.

3. Lead the team.

a. Facilitates team meetings: listen to input from the team; gives instructions to and receives instructions from the
couple coordinator; lead worships.
b. Makes sure the team knows what to do and actually does it. Run through regular activities with the team
beforehand so they know what's happening; regularly supports and instructs camp servants.
c. Corrects the team (individually or as a whole group). Note: The couple coordinator should course his/her corrections
through the team leader.
d. Encourages the team: exhort and take every opportunity to commend them.
e. Give advice.

D. Practical Tips for the Entire Service Team

1. Be humble. Try to answer all the questions of the children. Don't be afraid to admit to a child that you don't know the
answer to the question.
2. Be encouraging. Always focus on what they can do instead of what they can't do. Be generous in praising them for every
little good thing they do. This will give them the courage to try harder and feel good about themselves.
3. Don't compare the children. Children are all special. Bring out the uniqueness of each child by paying special attention to
them when they participate and by encouraging those shy ones to speak or to play with the others.
4. Enjoy serving the children. Children can easily detect negative emotions. Your enjoyment in working together at learning
new activities and games will build healthy emotion, and can nourish the child's self-esteem. Always keep a
smile on your face. It is an honor and a privilege to be serving those closest to God's heart.
5. Be prudent with words and actions. The kids look up to you as role models. Children are very observant. They learn
things not just with you say but more importantly with what they witness or hear from you.

E. Purpose of Some Aspect of the Camp

1. Purpose of Mingling
a. Allows you to relate to the participants/team.
b. Evangelistic.
c. Builds friendships.
2. Purpose of Seating arrangement (the ideal is U-shape)
a. It is easier to speak to the children because distance is cut.
b. Removes the formality of a classroom setting
c. Children encourage one another to be more participative
d. You become part of the group.
3. Purpose of Songs (action songs, reflection songs…)
a. Teaches the children to pray and to make prayer more enjoyable
b. God gets His message through with the least resistance,
c. Energizes the sessions (wakes the children up)
d. Gathers the children to start a session.
4. Purpose of Humor
a. Makes the children listen to/enjoy the session
b. Establishes rapport with audience.
c. Makes a point easy to remember.
***Be wary with the jokes. Avoid negative humor like toilet/brown and green jokes.
5. Purpose of Games
a. Makes sessions enjoyable.
b. Makes activities participative.
c. Energizes the camp.
d. Stimulates and reinforces learning.

F. The Sessions:

There are 4 sessions namely:

a. God Loves me and He Wants Me to be Happy

i. The session inculcates to the kids how much God loves them by allowing them to recognize the blessings (things,
people and talents) he gave them to show that love.
ii. The activity should help the kids be aware of how God has made the kids experience His love for them.

b. Jesus will Show Me How to Love God

c. God Will Always Forgive Me Because He Loves Me
i. The session presents to the kids the reality of God’s mercy and forgiveness and how they can be reconciled with God
and to the people that loves them.
ii. In the activity, the kids will be given the opportunity to express their love for God and to be able to ask forgiveness
for the wrong that that they have done. The kids will also have to do the same for the people closest to them-
their parents.
d. The Holy Spirit Will Help Me to be Good Always
i. Being the last session, this session helps the kids realize that God sent the Holy Spirit to guide and help them in their
walk to Jesus.
ii. Through the activity the kids will be given the opportunity to be prayed for by their parents and to be able to share
their experience with them.

The talks should be short, very simple, and informal. Visual aids - such as pictures or slide shows — may be used to
sustain the interest of the children in listening to the topics being discussed. Remember that the attention span of children is
very short.
The sharing/personal testimonies must be alive and exciting.

G. TIME TABLE

3 months before the camp. The KFC Couple Coordinator in chare should start scouting for possible venue of the kids camp,
negotiating fees and availability of the venue requirements stated above.
2 months before the camp. The KFC couple coordinator finalize the important details of the camp and sends out letter of
invitation. They also start forming the team that will help them with the camp
1 month before the camp. The KFC Household follows up parents to determine number of participants. The KFC Couple
Coordinator settles down Payment with the venue to ensure the reservation The couple
coordinator meets with the team (CFC and YFC components) and orients the team.
During this meeting, roles and responsibilities are assigned. A more specific timetable (deadlines,
etc.) is set. The team may also decide to have a common prayer time (everyone prays at a
certain time daily for the intention of a successful kids camp.
2 weeks before the camp. All materials are sourced and gathered. Additional service meetings are scheduled as needed.
Follow up parents for the Parents Orientation (See Appendix B: Parents’ Orientation)
1 week before the camp. Final detailed walk-through of the whole kids camp. A run-down of all materials is conducted.
Actual materials are checked and modified, if necessary.

V. Expanded Outlines

TOPIC 1: GOD LOVES ME AND HE WANTS ME TO BE HAPPY

I. Introduction

Who is God?
(Ask anyone who they think God is. They could recite it out loud or you can ask them to try to draw a picture how they perceive
God to be.)
The result would most probably describe God as:
 Creator - He made everything!
 Good
 Loving and kind
 Controls the weather or something!
After this simple activity, affirm their description about God who is powerful, wise, and who created everything.

II. The God who made everything loves you!

“For God so loved the world He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16)

God loves each and every one of us. He created all of us. Without Him, we would not be here. He gives us beautiful things and
all the things we need. (Tell them to close their eyes and imagine the things God gave them that make them happy. After a
minute, you can ask them the things God gave them and take note of them.)
 The trees
 The sky
 Our pets
 Our parents
 The air we breathe and the water we use
 He gave us LIFE.
Yes, the most beautiful gift he gave us is our LIFE! He also gave others life so that we may enjoy the things He made for us. He
gave us our parents, our brothers, and sisters. He gave us every one that we love. God did not just give every one that we love;
He also gave His most precious son, Jesus, to show us how much He loves us and to save us.

III. He gave us all these things so we can be happy!

“For I plans know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare not woe! plans to give you a
future full of hope. “(Jer. 29:11)

God loves us and wants us to be happy. Our parents are there to take care of us. Our brothers and sisters are there to help us.
Our friends are there to play with us. God gave us gifts and talents unique to us. God also assures us that we will have
a good future ahead of us.

IV. Conclusion
If God loves you, do you love God? How can you show you love God? Let us pray to God. (Invite them for a short prayer. Tell
them to repeat after you).

"Lord,/ thank you for creating so many things for me./ Thank you for the trees,/ the animals./ the mountains./ and the air./
Thank you./ for giving me life./ Thank you/for my parents./ brothers and sisters,/ and friends. I know/ that you love me/ and
want me to be happy./ I also want to love you / and make you happy./help me to be good/ so I can show you my love./Amen.

V. Sharing (Introduce sharer for this topic. 5 mins. Only)

VI. Suggested Activities:

1. Marshmallow Sculptures
Materials: Marshmallows
Tooth picks
Dynamics:
 Give each small group plenty of marshmallows and toothpicks.
 Ask them to make something that God gave us using the marshmallows and toothpick. Encourage them to work as a team.
 Interview them later what are the things that they created. After that they can eat the marshmallow.

2. Diorama Using Junk Materials

Materials: Scissors (safe ones)
Glue/Paste
Empty cartons of the following:
soap/toothpaste, matchbox, toilet paper roll. Cloth, yarn, wood shavings, sand, pebbles, bottle caps, etc....
Dynamics:
 Ask the children to make a mini diorama of God's creations.
 Encourage them to work as a team.

3. I am Blessed!
Materials: Pen
Paper
Dynamics:
 Ask each participant to write in the paper 10 things that they consider as God’s blessings to them. Give them 5 minutes to do
this. After that ask them to share in their group what they wrote.
 Ask the children to draw the things they consider as God’s blessings to them….

TOPIC 2: JESUS WILL SHOW ME HOW TO LOVE GOD

Activity: Paint Me a Picture

Materials: List of the Events in the Bible or Mysteries of the Holy Rosary

Dynamics:
1. Divide the participants to smaller groups with equal number of members.
2. The game master will say, “Paint Me a Picture of (chosen mystery or event in the bible). The groups will be given 1 minute to
arrange themselves accordingly. Then the game master will say “Freeze”.
3. Judges will go around and ask each group to explain their formation. The judges will choose 1 winner.
Sample Events in the Bible:
· Feeding of the Multitude
· Crucifixion of Jesus
· Last Supper
· Jesus at the temple with the scribes and Pharisees
· Wedding at Cana

I. Who is Jesus?
(Just like the first topic, ask them who Jesus is and take note of their answers.)
Whenever we celebrate Christmas, “Who's birthday is it?” Yes, Jesus was born on Christmas Day. Jesus is the Son of God. God
sent Jesus to us to show us how to love God.

II. How did Jesus show us how to love God?

a. When he was young...
 He helped his foster father Joseph
 He was obedient to his mother Mary
 They prayed as a family every night.
 He loved to play with his friends and did not fight them.

b. When he was older...

 He went from town to town and told people that "My Father (God) loves you very much."
 He healed the sick, the blind and the deaf.
 He taught people how to pray to God.
 He made the sad people happy.

III. What did people say about Jesus

People were always following Jesus. They said that:
 "Jesus is so good."
 "He is the friend of all."
 "He is the Son of God."
 "We love Jesus!" and "Let's follow Him!"

IV. Let's follow Jesus!

God loves us so much that He sent us His Son Jesus. God wants us to love others just like Jesus did when he was here on
earth. Let us love God by loving and following his Son Jesus Christ. Let us pray:

"Lord,/ help us to love Jesus./ He is good,/ obedient,/ and prayerful./ Help me/ to be like Him./ I want to be good,/ obedient,/
and prayerful./ I want to be His friend./ I want to love others/just like He did./ Help me/ to be like Jesus always/ so I may show
you/ how I love you./ Amen.

V. Sharing
 Introduce sharer for this topic. 5 mins. only

VI. Group Discussion

Discussion Starters:
1. Who is Jesus to me?
2. What characteristics of Jesus that I want to imitate?

TOPIC 3: GOD WILL ALWAYS FORGIVE ME BECAUSE HE LOVES ME

I. God want us to be good.

God is good to us. But He is hurt when we do bad things. We cannot say "I love God" if we are not good. That is why he wants
us to be good boys and girls always. If we say sorry for the wrong things we've done, God will always forgive us.

II. The Prodigal Son (Luke 16:11-31)

Read beforehand the story of the Prodigal Son. Then narrate the story to the kids in an interesting way, emphasizing that God is
like the father who forgives the sin if we say sorry. – Story telling with visual aids (drawing or power point presentation)

III. We can show our love for God by turning away from sin.

A. Some examples of sin.

 answering back to our parents
 not obeying our parents
 lying, stealing, cheating
 saying bad words, swearing
 looking at bad pictures
 hurting others
 by being selfish, stubborn

B. How can we be sorry for these sins?

 by being honest and humble to admit our mistakes
 by praying to God and asking for forgiveness
 by going to confession
 by not doing it again

IV. God is always merciful

Remember the Prodigal Son. No matter how big our sins are, God will
forgive us because He loves us. Jesus is always here to help us be sorry for our sins
and come before His Father. Let us be sorry for all our sins and allow Jesus to wash
us clean from all our sinfulness.

V. Sharing (Introduce sharer for this topic. 5 mins. Only)

VI. Activity : Letters to God and to parents

Materials : Stationary/cards
Letter envelope Ballpens/pencil
Dynamics :
 Let the children write letters to God expressing their love and asking
forgiveness for their wrongdoings. These letters are to be offered during
the Mass the following day.
 After writing their letters to God, the children will write a letter to their
parents expressing their love and gratitude for them. They may include
asking for forgiveness for their mistakes or wrongdoing. These letters will
be given to their parents during the last session.
 The facilitators should make sure that each child is able to write to God.

TOPIC 4: THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL HELP ME TO BE GOOD ALWAYS

I. We have a Helper!
(Ask them if they know of any super hero who "helps" people.)
Just like these super heroes, do you know that there is someone greater
than them who's always ready to help us? Do you know that there is someone who
is always with us who helps us to be good? He is called the Holy Spirit.

II. Who is the Holy Spirit?

Pentescost Story (Acts 2:1-5)
The Holy Spirit is God's own Spirit. God sent the Holy Spirit to guide and
help us. We cannot see Him. But He is always present. He is with us, everyday,
every hour, every minute, and every second. When we pray to Him, He gives us
the strength to be good and avoid sin and other bad things. We can also ask help
from Him when we are sad and troubled. He listens to us always. He makes us love
God even more!
Do you know that we can receive the Holy Spirit? Yes, we can. But we need
to pray with someone and ask God to fill us with His Spirit.
We will do this later after this talk.
Before we can receive the Holy Spirit, we must first show God that we love
Him and the people He gave us. As an expression of our love for God and the people

He sent us we must:
1. Pray to the Lord and tell Him:
 we don't want to sin anymore
 we love Jesus and want to be with Him always
 we need a Helper and believe that God will give Him to us

2. Show/demonstrate our love for our parents, brothers and sisters, and
friends.
 Respect our parents (asking for their blessing ‘pagmamano’, kissing
them, listening to what they tell us)
 Be kind to our brothers and sisters
 God will be pleased if we show our love for these people
 He wants us to be obedient and loving

III. Conclusion
God loves us. He sent Jesus to be our friend. He is now sending His Holy
Spirit to guide, strengthen us and to help us. Let us be ready to receive Him in
our lives.

Letter Giving and Dialogue

Instruct the parents to stay beside their child after this talk. The parents can
invite their kids to a place where they can start exchanging letters and having the
dialogue. (It is assumed that the parents have been oriented earlier about their letter to
their children and the dialogue that expresses love and forgiveness. They should also
encourage their children to receive the Holy Spirit and pray for their concerns during
the pray-over.)

The Pray Over Session

Gather the participants with their parents in the session hall. Make sure that
the parents are standing beside their children.
Tell the kids to sit with their hands on their lap as a sign of receiving. After
settling down, remind the kids to be prayerful, asking God to send his Spirit to them.
Ask the music ministry to play a slow song previously taught earlier. After the song,
the parents will lay their hands over their children and pray over them. Make sure
they are oriented of the pray-over process:
1. Praising
2. Pray for the child's concerns.
3. Ask the Holy Spirit to come to their child
4. Thanksgiving prayer
5. Close with Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

Worship
After everyone has been prayed-over, exhort the kids to thank God for the Holy Spirit
in them. The way to show it is through a series of songs and prayer called, a worship. The
process is as follows:
1. Teach them to voice their praises (Thank you Lord, I love you Lord, I praise you!)
2. Explain the raising of hands as a way of telling God "You are great!"
3. Start the worship with a fast song, then praising, then a slow song.
4. After the singing, lead the assembly in a simple thanksgiving prayer to God for
sending His Spirit to them.
5. Close the worship with a Glory Be. (A song is optional).

Appendix B:
Parents Orientation
Goals:
1. To explain to the parents the process that their children have gone through
during the Senior Kids Camp and to help the parents understand its purpose.
2. To brief the parents on their role during and after the Senior Kids Day.
3. To encourage parents to become actively involved in their area’s KFC program.
Talk Outline:
Brief parents on what their kids went through
A. The gospel was introduced to your kids in ways they can understand and
appreciate.
1. God Loves Me and He Wants Me to be Happy - inculcates to the kids how
much God loves them by allowing them to recognize the blessings He gave
them to show that love.
2. Jesus Will Show Me How to Love God - allows the kids to get to know Jesus
and His examples on how to love the Father.
3. God Will Always Forgive Me Because He Loves Me - presents to the kids the
reality of God’s mercy and forgiveness and how they can be reconciled with God
and to the people that loves them.
4. The Holy Spirit Will Help Me to be Good Always - helps the kids realize that
God sent the Holy Spirit to guide and help them in their walk to Jesus. Through
this activity the kids will be given the opportunity to be prayed for by their
parents and to be able to share their experience with them.
B. Don’t expect major changes in your child’s attitude
1. They are the same kids. An overnight camp of talking to them about
Jesus will not turn them into saints.
2. When they continue to exhibit the wrong behavior, don’t nag them, or use
this experience against them (e.g. “KFC ka pa man din, tapos ganyan
ka?”); instead, encourage them to do well and praise them when they do
so.
3. Relate his everyday experiences to what was learned today
Advise parents to nurture what was started
A. It is your job as parents to bring Christ to your child.
1. KFC can only support you in this; it cannot and will not take your place.
Ultimately, you are responsible for developing your child’s relationship
with Christ.
2. You are Christ to your child. He/she will know Jesus by the way you show
your love for him/her.
3. Service in community can only be real if it is real in the family – stress
1Timothy 3:4-5.
B. Some practical tips in nurturing your child’s relationship with Jesus
1. Show him/her God’s active role in the everyday events of his/her life. It is
important to keep communication lines open with your child, so that
he/she can wholeheartedly accept it when you point these things out to
him/her.
2. Pray daily with your child (but keep your prayers in level with his/her
age).
3. Give a blessing to your child every day before bedtime and before he/she
leaves the house. (Give a demonstration)
