My Personal Essay: The Teacher

When you are a child everything is possible. At a very young age, I learned teachers

hold the key to a magic place in children’s hearts. I hope this paper allows you all to get to know

more of me my dreams and ambitions. My family is full of teachers going back generations.

They have instilled in me that teachers are meant to be humble and are always willing to learn.

Call it Idealism or what you’d like; I believe with all my heart that it is true.

One of the reasons I would like to become a teacher most of all is to protect and project.

Whether we see it or not, our impact as teachers will be tremendous. You can do great things like

mold children’s minds and protect their hearts. As far as role models go, I really don’t have one,

other than my family. The teachers I have met were not the greatest role models. However, the

ones that were, I will never forget. They have left an everlasting footprint in my life. My math

teacher freshmen year turned me on to math and because of her I was able to get into calculus. I

believe that teachers are a network of support and have a lot to offer. I want to be that teacher!

More than anything, I want to be a teacher for the love of teaching. I want to see the

wonderment, the growth, and achievements in my students. I feel that all students have the

ability to grow and expand their minds to do great things, now imagine you are the reason. You

inspired that child to explore what they may have thought is out of reach or maybe even

impossible. Unfortunately children these days do not have the support needed at home to look

beyond their current situations and see the endless possibilities waiting for them if they work

hard and give it all they can. As a teacher you have the ability to offer that support and nurture

they may not be able to get from home.

Children want to do well, they want to be heard and valued. Being a teacher would allow

me to do this, be a part of something bigger in this world. Our students spend more time with us

than their own families during the day, so we should show them how to be the best they can be

and stay positive. We get what we put in so why not put in 150%. I want to be able to see more

students graduating and succeeding. I want them to feel accomplished and happy.

As you may be able to see, I feel that I can make a difference in my student life and give

hope where there is none or maybe just lost, and this is why I want to be a teacher. Thank you.
