BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

1. Pre-K/ CCSD K-2nd Grade Core Standards:

 (Kindergarten.) Use words and phrases acquired through conversations, reading and being
read to, and responding to texts.
2. Objectives:
SWBAT –
 Students will identify the character in the story.
 Students will summarize the tale.
3. Materials/Equipment:
 Book the Anansi does the Impossible
 Construction paper.
 Worksheet with the shape of the characters.
 Glitter.
 Glue.
 Markers.
4. Teaching:
A. Reading the book.
 Start by showing the cover of the book and ask the students what they see on the cover,
read the title of the book and tell the student to predict what the tale is going to be about.
Start reading the book, stop when Anansi talked with the Sky God and ask children what
will happen? Will Anansi will able to achieve the task? What will they do if they were
Anansi? After a little discussion continue reading. Stop when the grab the snack and ask
the students what they thing about the plan, what will they do different? Continue reading
and stop after the Sky God respond ask student what they think will happen next?
Continue reading and stop when they got the fairy ask students if they think that if that
will be enough for the God. Continue reading and stop when he got the hornets and ask
students if they way he got the hornets was created or not and what they would do
different. Continue reading and finished the book.
 At the end ask students what they think about the tale, ask about their favorite part, if they
were Anansi what they would do different. Asked about they favorite character.

B. Extension activity:
 Show pictures of the characters of the book and discuss if they exist in the real word or if
they are imaginary character. Ask student if they know how many feet a spider has? Show
a picture of a spider in which the students are able to see the feet and count. Ask students
if snack has feet? Show them a picture so they can see that snack don’t have feet. Show
pictures of fairy and ask students if they exist and explain them that fairy is imaginary
characters. Ask students if they have seen hornets and how many feet do, they have? Show
them pictures and count with them how many feet they have. After that discuss what they
think about the different character.
 Show the students the shapes of the character and ask them to pick their favorite
character. The students will glue the different pieces of the shape of their favorite
character to create the character. (The shapes will be cut so it can be easier for students).
Students will sit in small table of four so they can have space to work. Have pictures of all
the character in the table so students can build their character. Ask students to create their
own version of the character with the different material and give their character a name.

5. Closure:
 Student will show their work and tell a piece of the tale that they love.
