Jesus and Forgiveness

Description of the task:


• Students demonstrate their understanding of the significance of the Sacrament of
Penance, describe the steps, the key terms and identify why it is celebrated
• Students can showcase/ present their knowledge in a form of their choice as long
as all task points are met. Some formats may be book creator, power point,
iMovie, oral presentation, poster etc.

Purpose of the task:


• Take students consumed knowledge and create something out of it. As the task is
designed for students to be able to dissect and explain each aspect in their own
words to a peer, the students own knowledge is consolidated and extended.
• To assess students knowledge and understanding of the significance of the
Sacrament of Penance, describe the steps, the key terms and identify why it is
celebrated
• The purpose is not to assess their faith

Differentiation of the task:


• Students create a word sleuth with key words and steps
• Ask students to order a set of cards with the steps for receiving the sacrament

Key Understanding s and Learning Points


1. People show love and forgiveness
a) People show love for others whenever they do what is good for them
b) Saying ‘no’ can show love
c) Showing love can sometimes be unpleasant but for people’s own good
d) People love others when they forgive those who have hurt them, treated
them badly or offended them.
e) People need to continue to show their mercy and love for others even if
they have been hurt or offended in some way
f) When people show mercy and forgive others, they make their own and
others’ lives more peaceful

2. God always forgives


a) Jesus showed he had the power to forgive sins
b) God forgives people as soon as they ask sincerely for forgiveness
c) No sin is too great for God to forgive.

3. Jesus forgives and shows mercy


a) Jesus taught his followers that God’s mercy can overcome everything
