RF Specifications
Table 2 lists radio frequency (RF) specifications of an RRU5905.

NOTE:
• ATBR in the Transmit and Receive Channels column indicates that this RF module has A transmit
channels and B receive channels.
• CxD W in the Output Power column indicates that this RF module is configured with C transmit
channels and the maximum output power of each transmit channel is D W.
• EF MSR indicates that E and F data is carried on the same transmit channel of an RF module.
• EF non-MSR indicates that E and F data is carried on two different transmit channels of an RF module.
• GSM receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 51.021, at the antenna connector
on condition that the channel rate reaches 13 kbit/s and the bit error rate (BER) is not higher than 2%.
• LTE FDD receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, under a 5 MHz
channel bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
• NB-IoT receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, under a 200 KHz
channel bandwidth and a 15 KHz subcarrier spacing based on the FRC A14-1 in Annex A.14 (π/2
BPSK, R = 1/3, 1 RB) standard.
• The typical power consumption for an RRU module is measured when the RRU load reaches 50% and
the ambient temperature is 25°C.

6.3.5.3.2.2 RRU Functions
This section describes main functions of an RRU.
The Remote Radio Unit (RRU) consists of the high-speed interface unit, signal
processing unit, power amplifier, duplexer, extension ports, and power module.
Figure 1shows the functional structure of an RRU5905&RRU5905w and Figure 2 shows
the functional structure of an RRU5305 (1.4G).

Figure 1 Functional structure of the RRU5905&RRU5905w

Figure 2 Functional structure of an RRU5305(1.4G)

NOTE:
For details about the extension ports, see RRU Ports.

The RRU5905 and RRU5905w provide the following functions:

• Receives downlink baseband data from the BBU and sends uplink baseband data to
the BBU.
• Receives RF signals from the antenna system, down-converts the signals to
intermediate frequency (IF) signals, amplifies the IF signals, performs analog-to-
digital conversion, and up-converts RF signals to the transmit (TX) band.
• Multiplexes receive (RX) and TX signals on the RF channel so that these signals can
share the same antenna channel, and filters the RX and TX signals.
• Provides a built-in Bias Tee (BT). The built-in BT couples RF signals and OOK
signals and transmits them through the TX/RX port A. The built-in BT also supplies
power to the tower mounted amplifier (TMA).
• The RRU can work with the Monitoring Extension Box (MEB). The MEB can
transmit external RS-485 communication signals and dry node monitoring signals into
the RRU, implementing information monitoring and reporting. For details about the
MEB, see MEB06D User Guide.
• When an RRU is equipped with an AC/DC power module, the RRU and the power
module together are called an AC RRU. For details about the AC/DC power module,
see OPM15M(Ver.B) User Guide or OPM50M(Ver.B) User Guide.
The RRU5305(1.4G) provides the following functions:
• Receives downlink baseband data from the BBU to communicate with the BBU.
• The transmit (TX) channel filters downlink signals, performs analog-to-digital
conversion, and up-converts RF signals to the TX band.
• The TX channel filters TX signals.
• Provides a built-in BT. RF ports on the RRU can transmit RF service signals. Besides,
RF port A on the RRU can use the built-in BT to output OOK signals and supply DC
power to the TMA.
