Internship Takeaways and Log

4/22 - 4/26 Week one:

Monday: I just learned a lot about the where things are and what each person's job is in the
FBC. I did not get much patient interaction but I was able to help restock and learn about what
happens in the nursery and where c-sections take place. I was introduced to the unit and it was
a great first day! Hours: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM 7 hours 30 minutes

Tuesday: Today I was able to have a little more patient interaction. I was able to take her blood
pressure and temperature and chat a little with the patient about how they were feeling. I also
observed after a baby was born that was born 14 weeks early. They needed to get a team to
come and help her and then they had to send her to Albuquerque. They had to control her
breathing and get her healthy. Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM 8 hours 30 minutes

Wednesday: No hours.

Thursday: Today Britt came in! I also got to observe a version, which is where the doctor tries
to flip the baby if it is facing the wrong way. The doctor was pushing hard on the stomach to shift
the baby. It was actually not successful, which means that the lady was going to need to get a
ce-section. It was not too busy, I just shadowed around and worked on some school work for
most of the day, but I was able to get a lot done because I worked for a 12 hour shift.Today I
also got to watch my first birth. It was so amazing I teared up and I was in awe of how awesome
and crazy it was. Good way to end the day. Hours 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM 12 hours

Friday: I only came in for about three hours today because it was one of the sad days and I
didn’t need to be there it was also pretty slow and I had all the hours that I needed for the week.
8:00 AM - 11:00 AM 3 hours

31 Hours

4/29 - 5/3 Week two:

Monday: Skills Fair. 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM 8 hours

Tuesday: Skills Fair. 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM 8 hours

Wednesday: Skills Fair. 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM 8 hours

Thursday: Today I came in early and watched a C-section and it was great, I learned a lot and I
was very surprised. The doctors are so amazing and they were able to get a c-section done in
such a short amount of time. After the c-section, I helped out at the skills fair for the rest of the
day. 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM 8 hours.
Friday: Skills fair. 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM 8 hours

40 hours

5/6 - 5/11 Week three:

Monday: Today I was able to observe both the Techs and a Nurse. Today was not too busy
during the morning I was able to follow a nurse in and out of the patient's room, we just did stuff
like checking the monitor and checking the patients comfort because she was not very dilated.
Today I also was able to observe a circumcision on a 9 day old baby. I also spent some time in
the PACU and learn what the nurses do in that unit. 8:00 - 3:00 7 hours.

Tuesday: Today I was able to watch a C-section in the morning. For the rest of the time that I
was there I just followed around the nurses and helped with whatever they needed, I grabbed
supplies and water for the patients and observed what the nurses did to help with whatever the
patients needed. 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM 5 hours.

Wednesday: No hours.

Thursday: Today the FBC was pretty busy and so I just helped the nurses and the techs with
what they needed. I decided that today was going to be my last day just because I only needed
seven more hours and throughout the internship I met some really great people and it just made
me even more excited and interested to go into nursing as a career path. 8:30 AM - 4:00 7
hours 30 minutes.

Friday: No hours.
