 According to Netflix data, one of the series most viewed by teenagers last year was The End of the F***ing
World. Have you seen this series? What's your opinion about it? If you haven't, here's a review from an
online magazine. Read it to find out what the show is about, or to check if the writer agrees with you.

The End of the F***ing World is a British dark comedy-drama television programme,
based on a comic of the same name by Charles Forsman. The eight-episode
programme premiered its first episode on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom on 24
October 2017. It was a co-production with Netflix, who released it internationally on 5
January 2018. The programme follows James (Alex Lawther), a 17-year-old who believes
himself to be a psychopath, and Alyssa (Jessica Barden), a rebellious classmate who
sees in James a chance to escape from her complicated family life. Both of them set off
on a journey through England and encounter many adventures on the way…
The programme has been well-received by the critics for its writing and production, as
well as for Lawther and Barden's performances. It was nominated for the 2018 British
Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series.
The first series covered the entirety of the storyline in Forsman's original comics. On 25
January 2018, producer Jonathan Entwistle spoke of the possibility of a second series. He
confirmed that "We're exploring and we're seeing what we can do to expand the world
and see where we get to." Entwistle then went on to say that Netflix was enthusiastic
about a second series of the show. Writer Charlie Covell said "I think there are a number
of stories we could tell" and that she would "love to write more". Actor Alex Lawther
stated in an interview that he would be "very excited" for a second series.
The End of the F***ing World takes more unexpected plot turns as it goes on, and that
makes it worth watching. Another point in The End of the F***ing World’s favor: No
episode is longer than 22 minutes, which means you can fly through the whole series in
half an afternoon.

 After sharing your ideas with your friends on The End of the F***ing World,
read the review again and tick ( ) the statements that are true, according to the text.
Then, check with your class.

1) TEOTFW is based on a true story.

2) The main characters are teenagers.
3) The series has elements of more than one genre.
4) TEOFTW can be said to be a short series.
5) The plot is predictable.
6) The writer of the review recommends the show.
7) The second season of TEOFTW has already been made.

 You and your class have talked and read about many Netflix shows today, and also all throughout the unit
you have been working with. Work in small groups (3-4 ss) and make a top ten of Netflix series and movies
you think are worth watching. Agree on the position you are going to assign to each show on the scale
(1=the best show).

 Share your top ten chart with the other groups in the class. Have you chosen the same shows? What's the
class top ten?
 Next, you are going to watch a YouTube video by youtuber Audrey Carroll. She is a teen girl who enjoys
making videos, and she has her own YouTube channel: @audcarroll. Do you know about her and her videos?
Do you follow other youtubers? What kind of videos do they make? Briefly tell your class.
On the video your teacher is going to show you, Audrey shows her top ten Netflix shows. Watch the video
and check if she mentions the same shows you and your classmates have chosen:

pause it as necessary to make notes and complete the missing information on the chart below:

you this question for you to think about an answer. Discuss with you class.

What do you think Audrey's favourite shows have in common?

 Now that you have already written a review about your favourite movie or series and discussed many aspects of
a good show with your class, your teacher asks you to work on a project in groups of three. You are going to make
a video like Audrey's, briefly reviewing the ten Netflix shows you consider to be the best ones. You may use the
top ten list you made before, or you can change some titles. Your teacher gives you this list of aspects to take into
account:
 Your video should be about 5/6 minutes long.
You can talk about each show for about 40
seconds.
 You must carefully plan the content of your
video before recording yourselves.
 Include information about the cast, special
effects, the characters, genre or anything you
consider appropriate to describe the shows.
Remember to use the vocabulary you have
learnt.
 Also, use adjectives to describe the shows.
 Say why you like/recommend the show.
 You can plan the content of the video in class
and then record it at home to share it with 5
your classmates and teacher.
The videos are going to be shared in the school's webpage for other students
to watch them and leave comments. Remember that it's not necessary that
you or any of the members of your group actually appear on the video. You
can record your voices and use pictures and text for watchers to follow your
speech.

 As you watch the videos made by other groups in class, your teacher asks you to give them some feedback, by
circling the emoji in this chart:
 Would you add any other aspects to assess?
