State of the art

Before delving into the history of improving the design, manufacture and assembly of a ship's hull,
we will define several concepts related to it.

The ship's hull is one of the most important parts of the boat and yet, being submerged, we do not
usually notice it. The hull is the one that allows the buoyancy and also determines to a large extent
the maneuverability of the boat when sailing, that is why it is important to know its characteristics.

There are different SHAPES of HULL one of them is the

• Monohull: boat that has only one hull. It is the most common form and they are usually the
ones with the most structure submerged in the water.
• Submarines: generally have only one hull.
• Catamaran: boat that consists of two hulls joined by a structure.
• Trimarán: multi-hull boat consisting of a main hull and two smaller stabilizing hulls, joined to
the main one with lateral struts.
• Coracle: small and light boat, oval in shape and very similar to half of a walnut shell, the
structure is made of a framework of divided and intertwined willow rods, tied with bark from
the same tree. Its structure reduces the required water depth, which makes it ideal for
navigating rivers.

HISTORY:

The origin of the boats goes back thousands of years since the man has always wanted to sail.

In the beginning the navigation consisted of simple trunks of trees, which were evolving in simple
wooden ships driven with oars. With time they were adding elements to these ships like the rudder
and the sail to be able to guide and push the boats. And finally, they focused on how the shape of a
boat's hull affects its speed and potential for stability in the water.

In the Greco-Roman era the warship appeared, with the most solid and heavy hull.

At the end of the Roman Empire, the hulls of the ships were less heavy and faster.

With the industrial era there were important changes in shipbuilding: iron began to be used in the
manufacture of the hull

The last important type of sail ship was the cliper that appeared in 1840; It was wooden hull, thin and
light and great speed

In tuany twel Wally Yachts applied new materials and new technologies for the construction of the
hull in carbon fiber, titanium and electronics; for the control of 360 functions.

Today each one designs its boats according to the use that is going to be given to them. There are as
many variants of hulls as models.

So, you can find two basic designs in helmets

• Travel hull: some hulls have been designed to work only at low speeds.

• Glide hull: to reach high speeds in the water.
