Adventure of Sherlock Holmes

By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Reaction:

The title itself sounds good and exciting the novel has been renowned as Sherlock
being the best detective in the world but what if there is a deeper meaning to the story hidden
in the character’s inner self that we all missed? Sounds fishy right? But hear me out. First of
all , aren’t you curious about how he solves all of his cases? About his strong deductive
perception of things around him and remarkable observation.

Sherlock Holmes, a creation of an author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a
fictional detective famous for his prowess at using logic, keen and brilliant observation to solve
cases. Sherlock Holmes is a very unique individual and he is so realistic that many people
believe he was a real man existed in the late 19th century. Sir Arthur makes Sherlock the
character that possesses a very interesting set of personality and his distinctive characteristics
plays a big role in captivating the heart of the readers.

The author may have unconsciously diagnosed him with what's known as Asperger
(or Asperger's) Syndrome. To that, I say: So much has been written and said about him that
he may as well have been a real person. And so it was, Arthur Conan Doyle’s inspiration was
from imitating personas of his former professor, Dr. Joe Bell. Which is breaching the person
mental illness which has to be private and doing so he should had ask permission for making
such fiction character based on him which may compromise the persons personal
life? Somehow, Dr. Bell’s teaching skill to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s depiction of Holmes
deducing skill, both experts
reveals the existence of such impressive person in real life in which
allow people to be attracted to not only
Sherlock Holmes brief described appearance, but also his intellectual way of proving facts.

Not only has Sir Arthur Conan Doyle developed

Sherlock Holmes characteristic from his former professor, but also implanted some detective
tactics of Lecoq. One of the detective strategies Lecoq uses is disguise. Thus, Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle applies Lecoq’s use of disguises as one of Sherlock
Holmes detective tactics in which
emphasizes the fact that no matter what, Holmes will always find the truth; even with a disgui
se. Though Sir Arthur Conan Doyle develops Sherlock Holmes characteristics through
other characters, but the creative author manage to thrive a peculiar character trait that is unl
ike other fictional detectives on Sherlock Holmes throughout his novellas. Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle introduced the term Sherlockholmitos to distinguish
the unique character traits that proved Sherlock Holmes to be different from other detectives.

In some point, Sherlock has a bipolar characteristic one thing is withholds information
from the police. In the recent Sherlock Holmes books, he is pictured taking evidence from
crime scenes and hiding it from the police on multiple occasions. This allows him to stay
several steps ahead at all times and ensures he solves the case before they do. Only Sherlock
Holmes have stayed ahead of the police because he was simply better at deduction than they
were; it does a disservice to his character to suggest that he would ever misappropriate
evidence.

Adventure of Sherlock Holmes

By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Reflection:

The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes was absolutely interesting, especially when you
love detective and mystery kind of genre. This novel contain twelve short stories, containing
twelve independent mysteries for Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to solve. There are
references to other cases that Holmes has solved throughout different chapters, but they are
not integral to the plot of these subsequent cases. This novel enhanced my learning
experience and understanding of literature in a great many ways. Firstly, it has opened my
eyes to the world of classical writing, and the genre of mystery and detective fiction. The
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes has broadened my vocabulary. And it allowed me to
understand the allusions to Arthur Conan Doyle’s works. Reading The Adventures of Sherlock
Holmes greatly contributed to my knowledge of literature.
Most of the stories are narrated by Holmes 's known best friend, Dr. Watson. Watson is a young
man who is usually seen with Sherlock Holmes during many, many of the best known
investigations. It always captives me when Sherlock Holmes or Dr. Watson use the vast
knowledge that they have, as well as their common sense, to solve cases that at times seemed
completely and ridiculously unsolvable. There were cases that I could figure out at least
partially, which made this book even more engaging.

One of the only things that surprised me about this book was how little Dr. Watson had
to do with actually solving any Sherlock Holmes’s cases. Even though Sherlock is constantly
insisting on Watson’s presence during each case, the Doctor consistently proves he has
nothing to contribute to Holmes’s investigation, except for perhaps moral support and a
gun. On deeper reflection, Dr. Watson’s character is most likely used as a sort of surrogate
for the reader. Written from his viewpoint, it is easy for the reader, who most likely feels inept
at interpreting these mysteries, to connect with Dr. Watson. In essence we are Dr. Watson,
completely unnecessary to Sherlock Holmes as a fellow detective. We can offer no insight
that Holmes has not already deduced. We are necessary on a much more personal level,
however. Dr. Watson (the reader) provides not only companionship for our bachelor Holmes,
but an eager and complimentary audience.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was an easy read, it was a difficult book to study and
write about. Unlike with another novels “The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes” has only the plot,
and an extremely large and loyal following. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was a good
book, but tricky and difficult to analyse and interpret extensively.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventures of
Sherlock Holmes, because it broadened my knowledge of the archetypes involved in detective
and mystery fiction, deepened my understanding of classical literature, and overall was an
enjoyable read, despite being difficult to analyse and interpret. But then, I highly recommend
it to all who crave a little mystery.
