EC Department Subject with code: 2171103

B.E. VII SEM Faculty Name: HVR

Unit - 1 Introduction

(1) What is Industrial Automation? List types of Industrial Automation systems?

(2) What are the Requirement of automation systems?
(3) Draw Architecture of Industrial Automation system.
(4) List Industrial Protocols & Explain Modbus & profibus in detail.
(5) Draw the Structure of Industrial Automation.
(6) List the Automation Equipment’s used in automation industry.
(7) Differential PLC & Personnel Computer
(8) Give the specification of SCADA

Unit - 4 Programmable logic controllers

(1) What is PLC? Explain Scan cycle of PLC?
(2) List the type of system.
(3) How we can compare different control system?
(4) Explain architecture of PLC Architecture.
(5) Explain ladder diagram. Write ladder diagram for start and stop of motor using (i) two Push
button (ii) Single push button
(6) Explain PLC Communication & Networking.
(7) Explain Selection criteria for PLC.
(8) What are general rules to be followed during PLC installation?
(9) List the advantages of PLC.
(10) Develop PLC ladder logic diagram a motor control circuit has two start and stop buttons.
When any start button is pressed, motor runs. By sealing, it continues to run when the start button
is released. Any one of stop button stops the motor when pressed. The system seals on when the
start is released.
(11) Why isolation is required in I/O Bus? Explain I/O Bus isolation using opto-coupler.
(12) The process system have two switches PB1 and PB2, two lights Red light-R and Green
light-G, one relay CR1. Draw PLC ladder logic diagram to perform following process:
1. PB1 pressed: Red Light ON, Relay Energized and Latched, Red Light continued to remain ON
after releasing PB1
2. PB2 pressed: Relay De-energized, Green Light ON, and remain ON after releasing PB2, Relay
Unlatched.
(13) Develop a ladder diagram for ON-OFF operation of Motor by using
1. START-NO; STOP-NO push buttons.
2. START-NC; STOP-NC push buttons.
(14) Draw the ladder diagram using timer block to turn on the motor after the delay of 5 seconds
after pressing start switch and turn on lamp after the delay of 5 seconds when motor is off. motor
should be off after delay of 3 seconds when stop switch is pressed.
(15)

Unit - 2 Automation components

(1) Explain the power electronics component DIAC, TRIAC. Differentiate Power MOSFET &
IGBT.
(2) Explain AC & DC drive.
(3) Define sensor & Actuator. List various types of sensor & Explain construction and operation
of Resistance thermometer.
(4) Explain with the help of circuit diagram and waveform how TRIAC works.
(5) What are the various types of filled-type temperature measurements? Explain any one in
detail.
(6) How pH measurement is done? Explain it in brief.
(7) Describe with neat sketches, the construction and working principle of magnetic flow meter.
Also discuss its advantages and disadvantages.
(8) List the different types of speed-measuring devices. Explain, with neat sketches, the
construction and working of any two of them.
(9) Explain working of full wave SCR circuit with waveforms. Explain how to achieve trigger
control using opto-coupler
